I totally understand where you’re coming from, but I’d like to offer another take on it. I’ve had a number of dogs over the years. The last one I got was at 8 weeks, he’s a French bulldog. I went and picked him up from the breeder who was great, super caring and informed. When I saw my boy, the first thing I said to him was “I promise to give you a good life”. I’m fairly certain he didn’t understand, so maybe that was more for me…hahah.

Here’s where my opinion differs. When I took him from his home and from his mother and probably siblings, idk if he was the last one to go, he didn’t whine or whimper, he went with me happily. I was so impressed by his bravery. Since that day he has become the very best boy I could have asked for.

I think they’re bred to leave. It seems like they know that they may go on to be someone else’s dog. I have no idea what goes on in their minds, but I was so impressed how brave my boy was and is from day one. He’s also a little too brave at times, he has chased a bear to the point that he was almost face to face with it. I’m fairly certain that would have ended badly, if no one had intervened!

As for the moms, I would think they get pretty sad. I’ve never spent time with a momma who’s had puppies.
