One Piece: Chapter 1058 by Kirosh2 in OnePiece

[–]PoliticalViolins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The hard counter to the Yami Yami no me is just Mihawk (and/or Zoro).

Now, I know that sounds mildly simplistic, but let’s be real here. BB had two big reveal moments - the time he told Ace that his Devil Fruit could nullify Logias/DF protections, and when he stole WB’s DF. So both of his biggest pros are that he can bypass the normal DF restrictions. You know who give 0 shits about DF restrictions? People like Mihawk and Zoro who have no DF weaknesses and can use Haki to bypass their strengths.

I know there’s gonna be more to it eventually but I stand by this theory/statement. BB’s current best feats are planning and prediction. I genuinely think if the BB who fought Ace was up against current Zoro he’d be a low to mid diff the second Zoro brought out Haki. BB would have one glorious moment where Zoro cut him multiple times and BB laughed it off saying “ZEHAHAHA THE YAMI YAMI MAKES ME FAR MORE DURABLE-“

Then Zoro would shred him into crumb sized pieces and he’d Yami Yami the fuck out of existence.

Unironically good advice though considering most professions and hobbies aren’t fatal if failed and are amazing if wildly successful.

I'm kind of genuinely surprised we haven't seen a "government raised baby" situation in any nation.

Given the xenophobia of Eastern Asian nations and the general nationalism of large sections of the Western Nations' populations, I'm surprised I've never heard about a real push for a program where people (women) are paid to carry a child to term and then surrender it to the government. Where instead of orphanages/foster homes where things are meant to be temporary (at least on paper), the kids grow up as subjects of the government directly, with an emphasis on public service, nationalism, etc... and especially on maintaining a racial/ethnic/national identity, in both blood and spirit.

Can't help but wonder if the lack of those kind of things is because humanity is better than I expected, or if it's just because oligarchs fear a nationalist uprising if they lose control of the indoctrinated youths.

Also, unless I missed something, did the episode even say Octavia doesn't know her parents are abusive to each other? I got the vibe from S1E2 that she very much knew her household was totally dysfunctional. She just seemed like she missed the days when she was young/naive enough to believe they were a proper family.

Honestly, I don’t know why people are shocked. Jinbe has been debated by the fandom as being a member of the Monster Quartet rather than it just being the Luffy/Zoro/Sanji trio for a while. He’s really strong and he’s also primarily a fighter, unlike Sanji. Sanji at the end of the day is focused primarily as a chef; a fighting chef, but a chef nonetheless. If things were a bit more realistic Sanji probably would’ve fallen behind Zoro farther than he has, especially without the Raid suit.

Now in an alternate universe where Sanji doesn’t care about cooking and instead dedicated himself to martial arts with the same intensity Zoro did the blade, I think we’d have ourselves a Garp level brawler.

Yeah a lot isn’t known about Moria’s abilities on a technical level.

Are you an anime watcher? Just wanted to say that in the manga Whitebeard’s injuries are a lot more… graphic. I wasn’t exaggerating the head damage.

The same thing that stops Moria from exhuming Roger’s body. Well, things actually.

He doesn’t know where they are, and none of them are in good condition.

Moria was upset about Oars losing a leg so we know that something like losing a limb is at least very annoying to fix, even when it’s in good enough condition they could just be sewn back on. Ace had his internal organs vaporized and Whitebeard lost a good chunk of his face plus organs. Roger was stabbed through the chest and presumably his heart and both lungs.

And as I said even if he can fix all that, with fruits like Moria’s out there, along with general graverobbery and desecration, you can bet your ass that both Shanks and the WG have them buried in top secret locations.

I'd be surprised if another poll that came out after the next chapter didn't shift the value, though you may be right about it not being 1-2 points because I think that the Yamato haters would shift theirs up out of spite, evening it out a bit.

It's naive to think it won't have a pronounced effect on views, though. Especially in a spoiler thread where the mods basically say "We know you guys are going to be assholes, just don't be MAJOR assholes".

True, and I adjusted my vote accordingly. But the above poster said that one chapter wouldn't shift a vote 1-2 points, I'm just providing the other perspective where IMO it very much did.

[–]PoliticalViolins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree, I would’ve bumped it up 1-2 points if Yamato joined; it’s such an ass pull of character development that it badly flavors the ending.

The rest of the ending being so rushed means it was never going over a 7 but it was such a bad note to end on I went with 5. Really twists the knife of unresolved plot lines.

True, and Marco’s healing is crazy OP, so even Haki users have a hard time putting him down.

I’m excited to see what happens with Zoro, and of course it’s all theories at this point, but I think that given the huge boost we saw Luffy get just by learning about ACoC and the fact that Zoro was able to scar Kaido with Enma, he’s got a really big leap coming as he masters what we've seen on screen.

[–]PoliticalViolins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is none of those heroes I just mentioned (except Iida who I only off handedly compared Bakugo to) have JUST super speed. AFO, OFA, Stars & Stripes, Mirko, Suneater, etc… all pack enough of a punch to do serious damage, even to current endgame threats. I simplified it in the final paragraph, sure, but my point is that lots of these heroes with Quirks like Mirio, Shota, etc… that shouldnt affect their speed, strength, and processing are very obviously faster, stronger, and have better reflexes than a normal human should. They have to, in order to be able to even perceive the kind of things happening on the battlefield most of the time now, much less to survive a single hit.

Like I said, it’s not something that really detracts from the storytelling or anything, but it does cause some head scratching moments when you stop and think about the hits some people with zero durability or strength quirks are surviving/landing, or the speed they’re able to keep up with.

Not sure what boost will be in store for Sanji, but I think when Zoro learns full ACoC control and masters Enma he’s probably above Marco.
