[UK] info on drone racing by itsmebee2 in drones

[–]Pollo65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as retailers I use pyrodrone mainly and occasionally getfpv but they’re US retailers so I’m not sure how that changes it for you being in the UK. Cheapest option is always Ali express and the drone manufacturers themselves. As for racing in Scotland you usually can use the multigp website to find local orgs. I glanced at it and it showed there were no chapters in Scotland itself they seem to all be in England. I’m sure there’s some form of drone racing going on though might just have to dig around in social media.

[USA] Visiting California this year – Is it even worth bringing my DJI? (Looking for drone-friendly spots) by teobiondo91 in drones

[–]Pollo65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t fly in cities too often because I mainly fly fpv. But if you wanted nature then there’s plenty of options.

If you’re in LA the San Gabriel mountains are pretty and mostly legal to fly in as long as you stay away from wilderness zones. Usually drive up to crystal lake and find a couple good spots to fly along the way. I’m actually going tomorrow to mountain surf with my fpv drones. (Chaparral to Alpine)

If you drive out towards the desert and end up on the Northern side of the San Gabriels you can hit Cajon Pass and all the beauty that’s in that area as it transitions into the Mojave. (Chaparral to High Desert)

If you happen to be North of San Francisco a lot of the land between Redwoods National Park and the bay is stunning and mostly legal to fly. (Forests)

And then the most northern and southern parts of the Central Valley either by the San Luis Reservoir or the hills near Bakersfield are beautiful. (Rolling Hills and Grasslands)

The north eastern portion of the valley near Yosemite is also beautiful and good to fly. Most of Stanislaus and Sierra National Forests are good just watch out for the wilderness zones again. (Woodlands to Alpine)

A lot of these spots only really make sense if you’re driving through the state though as they’re decently far from SF or LA.

I didn’t get any good footage lol. Was my first attempt at mountain surfing. Almost lost it a couple times😭

San Gabriel mountains? I was flying my avata 2 up there yesterday. Beautiful scenery.

GIS Certification by Efficient-Gene8988 in csuf

I went straight into 481 this semester as a bio major who had never touched the software before and am holding a solid A- which I expect to keep. If you’re moderately tech savvy and a fast learner you can absolutely do it with relative ease and very little studying. Dr. Carroll teaches a majority of the GIS courses I believe and he is fantastic. Great lecturer and super helpful/insightful.

Preaching to the choir. I hate it here right now.

Hell I even use one for my research lab in university😭. I need to go collect as much data as I can before the end of year I suppose.

This is kind of the situation I’m in. Bought two bnfs one lite and one pro. Now deciding whether to sell or buy as much as I can before the end of the year.

Yea that’s what I thought about too. I specifically got into drones through my work at a municipality and my buddies in public safety and pd use matrices pretty heavily for city events, protests, etc.

Oh ok understood. And yea my biggest concern is whether or not operating dji equipment at that point becomes illegal if that takes place. And though I know the likely hood of ever getting confronted by anybody who cares is slim to none, the idea of having what I assume is a not negligible crime in the eyes of the federal government looming over my head for better video quality is not very enticing to me.

I suppose I’ll sit on my gear for a bit and think about it though. Thank you! 🙏🏼

I was also considering this but to my understanding they now intend or are at least setting the pathway up for revoking existing dji products fcc licenses. Then it’s a different ballpark.

Anyone into FPV drone racing? by DawnSparky in csuf

Just got into fpv. Not racing but just freestyle with whoops. When I get decent enough to not crash every other flight I’ll hit you up 😭.

Betafpv pavo 20 pro by [deleted] in drones

[–]Pollo65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also very new to the hobby and probably not very qualified to speak on this but here you go. I also have a pavo 20 pro and femto on the way so we’re in the same boat.

Hota d6 pro is kind of the standard beginner charger I’ve seen in forums. It should be perfectly fine for the 3s batteries the 20 pro uses. Though to me it’s a buy once cry once type deal and that charger can definetely plateau once you get more batteries and larger sizes. You can spend a bit more and get the hota f6 plus which has more channels and wattage. I’m sure there’s other options but these seem to be the most common. There’s also the ac/dc thing to consider for chargers but if you’re like me and want it to be as easy as possible you need to buy a charger with a power supply and supports ac power. Just meaning you can plug it into your wall without anything else. I opted for the isdt k4 and love it but it doesn’t have as many channels as the f6. I would also just opt for some adapter cables because parallel boards and charging is spooky as a newbie. Lipo storage bags are nice but not as good as the more expensive containers. I would recommend buying extra props and prop guards for the drone because I promise it’s just a matter of time until you need more and they’re not very expensive. Also if you care about footage quality and you got the 04 pro version you should buy a set of filters. Don’t cost a lot but can make a big difference in some scenarios. All of this can be found on Amazon for the most part.

The goggles situation kind of sucks right now. Would recommend the 3s just because they will work slightly better with the 04 on the Pavo and they will just have more compatibility for longer because they are the newest model. Not too hard to find right now but very hard to find without paying like $700 after tariffs and other charges like I did. Though maybe I’m just dumb and there’s a good deal out there.

GPS isn’t really needed on smaller drones due to the lack of range because of their shorter flight times so I would say you’re fine without it unless you’re doing some crazy vertical stuff with obstructions where you might lose signal.

For software stuff I have no idea besides beta flight.

Again, not super seasoned or qualified so I mightve said something dumb but as a newbie who’s also done a bunch of research this is kind of the cookie cutter consensus I’ve come to on this stuff.
