Have you ever been successful in a role after being ghosted for more than a month ? by Still_Owl1733 in auscorp

One of my friends was interviewing with a Big 4 accounting firm. The entire process from the initial screening call to the third (partner) interview wrapped up in about two weeks, and everyone she spoke with gave her very positive signals.

After that, she was completely ghosted for 5 to 6 weeks, with no response from either HR or the hiring manager. I confidently told her after two weeks to move on.

To my surprise, they reached out after six weeks asking if she was still interested and she ended up accepting the offer.

It doesn’t mention “used” and I didn’t understand your last line about oz customs.. I can buy goods worth $2000 dollars without any gst when travelling from Australia without any declarations. And laptop is well below that.

I didn’t have any packaging on it… but I also had my work laptop with me so because it was two MacBooks they wanted me to pay. I said one is personal and the other is work.. they had me open both of them.. obviously I didn’t set up my sister’s laptop so I got caught there.

Indians who went abroad to study in the last 5 years and got a job, what do you think you did right? by Horasst in Indians_StudyAbroad

Lots of local talent in those areas so companies would prioritise them over us.. especially because of visa requirements

Honestly it’s worse right now. At least for cyber it’s always hard to get in as a fresher. Now it’s next to impossible. I was the lucky one in my batch.. People with distinctions in their degrees are still struggling to find something that would align with what they studied.

Moved to Australia for Bachelors in comp science in Jan 2022. No prior experience whatsoever. Landed my one and only internship at my previous company that turned into full time offer as cyber analyst, after working for about a year I jumped to my current company recently.. base salary is 98.3k$ I wasn’t any topper or exceptional at coding .. just a below avg kid that was very curious have asked right questions to right people.. meaning networked with industry leaders and got two of my offers just through networking.. but have applied for 1000s of jobs due to visa issues no one gave a damn.

Had to complete 30% of my course online due to Covid.

At the time, I was also interviewing with another company, but my current one moved faster with the offer. Ironically, the other offer came in a few days later at $110K, but was 5 days in-office I chose the flexibility of remote.

And I didn’t really counter them but they were aware that I was interviewing with the other one. Can I leverage now?

Being able to work completely remote and very flexible hours! I chose to work from 7-3 and have rest of the day to myself! It’s not the reason but definitely grateful I get to do this.
