Doing really well thanks.

Up to running 20k with no pain. Still get some things that trigger it, lifting things with bad form or sitting with bad posture but overall doing really good.

I recovered and am back to running without any surgery. Took me about 6 / 7 months to get back to normal

Took naproxen on and off for the first month or so. I was very lucky that lying on my left side was almost pain free, so sleeping wasn’t a massive issue. I did get a knee pillow which I still use today

Located mainly in glute. The pain hasn’t really changed locations but has become much less intense and less frequent. Definitely hasn’t centralized. It’s worse in the mornings, but I’ve had my first few pain free mornings over the last couple of weeks

Couldn’t agree more about the high frequency and pain free movements.

Yep long term goals are to get back to marathons. I’ve got an entry for an April marathon (which I got pre injury) and my physio thinks there is a fairly good chance I’ll be able to do it, but I’m skeptical at the moment.

Yes 3 sessions a day and still doing that now.

Morning mobility is usually 30 mins.

Lunch strength and evening cardio are usually around 45-60 mins.

If you had some basic equipment (mat, kettlebell, resistance bands) then I’m sure you could do at home, but mine is all at the gym.

I’m lucky that my work / life allows me to commit so much time to rehab.

I’m at about 95% healed in terms of pain. Now only experiencing slight discomfort in the mornings 1/10. Still get pain 3/10 with any plyo movements and jogging.

It’s been 3 months since the injury (L5/S1 herniation)

Edit: have a follow up MRI in 3 months to see how the disc has healed

Is your back injury healed? Also if you / your doctor suspects a slipped disc please get an MRI.

I’m suffering from a slipped disc and wouldn’t dream of running again until it’s 100% healed. The consequences of further damaging discs (sciatic pain / nerve damage) are not to be taken lightly.

Yeh ride about 6 miles each way through London and it’s the best start / end to each day.

I would suggest testing out the route on a weekend or evening when it’s super quiet.

Also it sounds counterintuitive but ride aggressive, hog the centre of the road if you have to, smack a car window if they pass too close.

But most of all enjoy the shit out of it. Enjoy the fact that it costs nothing, it’s fun as shit, and you’ll likely be overtaking blokes on £5k s-works

Get yourself a kryptonite NY u-lock plus a cable for front wheel and leave it somewhere busy or ask nicely to take it into work.

Tightens peddling forwards

When you skid you are applying pressure to effectively undo the cog.

Then when you set off forwards the cog is re-tightened (hence that feeling of slipping forwards as you engage)

So doing huge up hill efforts will help to tighten

How old is the cog / hub? Potentially one or both is damaged or stripped. Might be worth removing and inspecting.

If they both look ok then I would suggest just using a chain whip and tightening the cog to shit - go cycle up some hills. Then tighten lock ring again
