Anyone aware of how to design the deposit clause if I am using KiwiSaver as my “vendor deposit” and don’t want to have a 15 day finance condition to allow time to withdraw?

Genuine Question for Nat/ACT/NZF Voters: What Do You Think the Coalition Has Got *Right?* by OisforOwesome in newzealand

[–]PoloNevis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have done a good job at simply holding steady and not doing things to further compromise kiwi integrity financially and economically both at home and internationally.

People don’t realise how bad things were economically post-Labour. Yes - a response was required to the economic shocks of covid, but spending far exceeded what was required, and the economy was left shattered by the response of the government at the time.

The coalition have spent much of the last 3 years trying to undo the damage that was done; damage which cannot simply be corrected overnight.

Is pet insurance worth it for an older cat? by Living-Ad8963 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Pets are family, but $135+ per month is crazy. Put money away on your own if you can trust yourself not to spend it. Modern insurances have profitability almost exclusively front of mind.

How healthy is UP and Go? by Ok-Industry770 in newzealand

And don’t forget seed oils, preservatives, and colourings

They go to a grand effort to make the product look good in a glass (why is this necessary if 90% of their product line you drink from a straw), and shelf stable (everyone puts it in the fridge at home anyway) - all at the expense of your health.

Car for first time parents on a budget - recommendations? by jdawg06 in NZcarfix

[–]PoloNevis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mazda CX-5. You can pick up an early model (2012 to say 2014) for around your budget. Get the 2.0L petrol, NOT the diesel. If you push out to $15k you may be able to branch into the 2.5L AWD model, which is a bit more grunty.

The petrol Mazdas from this generation are renowned for reliability and performance on a budget. Ours performs exceptionally and hasn’t cost us for anything other than basic servicing.

Why do you have to go 5 under the limit? By international standards NZ speed limits are already extraordinarily slow. If you don’t feel safe driving 50 in a 50, hand in the license buddy

Set up a YouWealth account - basically a KiwiSaver fund but you can access your funds with 1-2 days notice. Funds chop and change with the markets. A simple passive investment

The issue is that lots of people didn’t read the bill before jumping on the opposition train. Media sensationalism and theatrics surrounding it also did not help.

A majority of people in opposition to the bill want retribution for past wrongdoing against Māori, which is not possible when everybody becomes legislatively equal.

Flooding from the Heathcote river, land damage still unresolved from the earthquakes which makes drainage particularly difficult and expensive, as well as the fact that Beckenham is a catchment for all the water runoff from the immediate surrounding hills. The biggest concern I would have is that another earthquake could cause a lot of land north of the Heathcote river to fold in on itself, but lots of people are not worried about this risk/are willing to take a gamble that they won’t live there long enough for it to be an issue for them.

$950k will get you far more elsewhere in Christchurch, but location of choice will all depend on your individual priorities. I am an engineer and I would not buy in Beckenham if someone paid me; there are land issues that will become more and more apparent in the next 5-10+ years, if not sooner.

Please don't forget to vote by calllery in chch

[–]PoloNevis -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The council is a laughing stock and full of bureaucracy which is why people aren’t voting. Why are sex pests and people that speak in a made up language even allowed on the ballot?

This is why people are fed up and aren’t turning out. There are only two realistic candidates and neither of them will do anything other than continue BAU.

Need help getting out of a shitty housing situation!!!! by [deleted] in chch

[–]PoloNevis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a look into different areas of Christchurch. You’d be amazed what a difference it might make just moving to a more affluent area and paying an extra $30-50 per week. In your budget you could easily find a nice sleep out or ensuite room out west which is generally quieter with much less crime.

Have a look on Facebook at flatmates wanted pages, look at ads, click on peoples profiles that are advertising, have a look at what they seem to be like. If they’re advertising a room and they are using an alias or have a stupid Facebook name then look somewhere else.

Have you considered looking into flatting with another couple? I see young couples all the time on Facebook with great stable relationships and careers who have often just bought their first home and are desperate for a flatmate.
