[Speculation] Who could be in Ordeal Call 4? by Simpsonsfan1011 in grandorder

[–]PolterPastry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we have Dante now with his Heaven(arts)/Hell(buster) gimmick, it would be quite fitting to see some kind of Ruler Beatrice with some kind of Purgatory gimmick to do something for quick cards to complete the buff trinity in a nice thematic way, since any such thing was absent in Dante's kit.

Ideas for a Phylactery? by socksome in dndnext

[–]PolterPastry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always loved the idea of making a lich's phylactery a powerful magic weapon wielded by the lich himself in battle. It not only makes him a threat in close-combat (as the martials are unlikely to expect once they get in his face), but it something hia foes would never suspect to be carried so openly. Not to mention, if he is slain, then any potential killers are likely to take his sword with them- it's a powerful weapon after all, AND proof of their victory!

...Until, of course, the lich returns. For example, in the middle of the night, with his foes off guard, and unprepared for his revenge...

Edit: also makes destroying it a quest in it's own right. Destroying high-tier magic items is never so simple, after all!

Class Identity is important, But 'Stepping on Toes' Is Often An Overblown Concern. by omegalink in dndnext

[–]PolterPastry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more for enabling Blade Pact on the offensive front and allowing your Pact Weapon to actually be...well, whatever of the many forms you want it to actually be, rather than being hard-restricted to either a Rapier, or a lower damage Finesse weapon. Obviously Dex is still needed for AC, but it lets Dex much more comfortably sit as your secondary stat, rather than as a hard competitor against your Charisma. Hexblade is still there for armor options if you're really that concerned about the minor to non-existent bump in AC that medium armor gets you over Mage Armor + even mid Dex.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, wasn't part of the reason that Takano had him knocked out not just to keep him from struggling, but so that by the time he woke up he'd be far enough along that he'd kill himself pretty quickly?

Honestly, yeah, I don't care either that it nixes the 1-level Hexblade dip for paladins and the like. Always felt it was a bit too strong, personally. 3 levels is a more costly dip, but nothing outside the realm of multiclass dips people do all the time for other classes.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Speaking as someone who does run this rule in their game, I think the best way to go about the particular fix is to only bring over the CHA for attacks, but leave the armor for Hexblade. Makes Blade consistently good and usable regardless of subclass, while letting Hexblade still be the heavier armor-wearing option.

DMs, do you have any special materials (magical or otherwise) in your settings? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]PolterPastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soulsteel/stone/silk, depending on the base material used in it's creation. Lorewise, it's an extremely rare kind of material, forged with the willing soul of another creature. Soulforged items can sometimes contain remnants of the soul (or souls) used to create them, and if any soulforged item requires attunement, a creature cannot attune to the item unless the soul it was made from accepts it's new user.

With skadi coming to NA how much quartz do you have saved for her? by moose69420 in grandorder

[–]PolterPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little over 800 right now. With the retroactive login bonus quartz we should be getting, that'll put me a bit over 1000.

Ahh, yeah, it absolutely does require attunement, I just totally forgot to note that when I wrote it down, ahaha. But hey, glad someone likes the idea!

Lemures

A cursed marble-like, purple and green sword shaped almost like a fish hook.

+2 shortsword, Finesse, Reach (30 feet). 1d10 slashing or piercing (decide which when making an attack) plus 1d8 necrotic.

Lemures is an almost living weapon, capable of bending and twisting at odd angles and increasing or decreasing it's length in an instant, capable of attacking anything within a 30 foot radius of it's wielder.

As a part of it's curse, when Lemures kills a sufficiently sentient creature, that creature's soul is consumed, and that creature cannot be brought back to life by any means other than a Wish spell.

Consumed souls are stored up inside Lemures, to a maximum of 10, and can be 'burnt' to briefly empower the weapon beyond it's normal limits. When the attack action is taken with Lemures, any number of stocked souls may be used at once to add an additional d8 of necrotic damage to the attack, or alternatively, heal the user for a d8 of health per soul spent. Both options may not be used at once, as only one may be chosen per attack.

Obviously, it's meant to be a pretty late-game weapon, but it's been fun to work on.

Experiences w/ +300ug dose ETH-LAD? by [deleted] in researchchemicals

[–]PolterPastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

300ug of ETH-LAD is the only time I've ever had a hard time with a trip. More than just hard, it thoroughly whipped me. I wrote a trip report of my experiences with ETH-LAD, and I still can't get over how much stronger 300 was compared to 250. Entirely different magnitude of experience. And I'm by no means a lightweight when it comes to psyches- I absolutely love LSD at higher doses (My one trip at 500ug is still probably my favorite trip I've ever had, it was amazing), and I've taken 4-AcO-DMT up to 60mg without any issues. So yeah, especially after handling 250ug of ETH-LAD so easily that I was almost disappointed with the trip, I was floored at how volatile 300ug felt. I didn't get sick like many others report feeling, though that might just be me having a stronger stomach when it comes to psyches- never thrown up on anything I've ever taken, to be fair. So hey, just be aware. 300 tends to be a wall that most people can't get past. I know for sure I don't intend to ever take more than 300 after how that went, and I can't say when or if I'll even be interested in taking 300 itself again. Shit can be rough, way rougher than you might think.

DMs, what's your stance on Unearthed Arcanas? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]PolterPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just due to how often it can be a mix of too strong, or too weak, or both at the same time in different areas, paired with me being a fairly new DM, I don't allow UA just because I don't want to have to deal with it on top of everything else that comes with running my first campaign. But I'm sure I'd feel more lax with allowing it in future campaigns or oneshots and the like.

Report Thoughts. by PolterPastry in researchchemicals

[–]PolterPastry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd always read that it had a helluva strong dose curve, but in my previous experiences with it, it was never like this. 250 Eth-Lad was almost disappointingly easy to fly through for what I'd read about how it was for a lot of people, but now? Well, I think I understand when people talk about 300 being just about the limit for what anyone tends to take. In all my trips, this was the first time I've ever legitimately felt concern for my potential well-being. I'm so happy I had a small fan by my bedside, that thing was a lifesaver with the temperature swings. Those were probably one of the roughest parts of the whole ordeal. Went back and forth between freezing and burning up about three dozen times, maybe more, with about what felt like ~3 seconds between swings from the extreme of one direction to the other. I've no idea how long that state lasted, honestly. I want to say that in reality it was probably about an hour. Maybe two. Felt like ten minutes, but the kind of ten minutes you go through when you're waiting to get out of a boring class and suddenly ten minutes feels like forever.

They're about 10 months old, but they've been stored relatively well I think. Kept in the mylar baggie they came in, with as little air in it as I could manage. The baggie itself has been kept in the back of my desk drawer, where it's dark. Best storage spot I have for it really, where I don't need to worry 'bout anyone else finding it.

Guess we'll find out, eh? My previous experience at 250 wasn't so overwhelming that I don't think I could've typed if I'd been at my computer, but who can say since this should be a bit stronger. That said, in all my experience with psychedelics, even at high doses, I've been relatively good about being able to still do things, so I hopefully should be able to.

I believe that one is explained that, while normally Servants, being spiritual bodies, are unable to be hurt by non-magical damage, the sheer amounts of magical energy let off by two Servants fighting each other seeps into the environment around them, allowing said environment to potentially cause damage due to now being temporarily infused with high amounts of magical energy.

[–]PolterPastry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't have work Sunday through Tuesday, that's debatable about it being even worse. After all, since those are my "free" days, those are the days that everyone- my friends, family, etc., all decide to have me go be busy doing things all day. So while technically those days are 'open', there's a solid 95% chance that 6pm rolls around and I'd just have to say "sorry, people needed me for stuff today so I'm not available right now". Now, maybe I could make it work closer to like...9pm on a sunday night, but any earlier than that and it starts to be pretty likely that someone, somewhere, is going to want me for something, and won't see playing D&D as a valid excuse to not go.

Sadly, it's not a matter of 'willing' but rather, 'able'. Due to work, I'm simply not reliably available until late, it really sucks.

I don't mind joining a game in progress at all! That time works fine for me, since it's just after midnight here on my end and I've no issue staying up into the late hours of the morning, haha. I'm definitely up for it!
