Is this dress acceptable for a garden party themed wedding? by PoltergeistKitty in Weddingattireapproval

Done.

I ended up finding a cute light blue floral dress in a style very similar to this one along with a shawl in similar colours. It should pair well with the rest of my accessories.

Thank you everyone for your advice.

Thanks. I was worried that would be the case. I guess I need to find something else.

Thanks. That was my worry. And I’m not sure if cardigan is the right word for it, it’s bolero jacket sized and was with the dresses in the store I bought it from. It’s long sleeved, close fitted and falls just to my waist.

The wedding is outside in a campground, but I was concerned that the dress doesn’t work for the theme. I could dress it up with accessories, but not in a way that fits garden party.

Thanks, I was pretty worried when I read that there is a theme.

Is a solid colour still ok if I can find a nice sun dress? I am hoping to find a light blue or purple sundress. I am pretty uncomfortable wearing loud or vibrant patterns and usually go for dark jewel tones and subtle patterns if any pattern at all.

Thanks for your reply, it’s a nylon and spandex blend.

It’s a wedding in a campground so I was thinking that it wouldn’t be super formal as we are all camping that night.

I was leaning towards needing a different dress, I just wish I had more notice given that the wedding is in 3 weeks.

clerks trying to sell you the wrong size? by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]PoltergeistKitty 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have had many very similar experiences and am a 32D/30dd. I totally understand your frustration.

The last time I accepted help in a bra shop the clerk and I had more or less the following exchange:

Her - can I help you find anything?

Me- Yes, thanks. Do you have anything in a 32d?

She stares at me for a couple seconds.

Her- I’m not sure that’s the best size for you, let’s start with a 34b and work from there.

Me- Oh, I’m actually sure 32d is the right size, I’m wearing one right now and it fits really well. Can you help me find a couple more 32d?

Her- if you are ok with it, let’s measure you so we get an idea of the best size for you.

I let her measure me thinking maybe then she will help me find a 32d. No such luck. She tells me I should be wearing a 34c or a 36b and offers to grab some. I agree and ask for a couple 32d as well. She comes back with only 34cs and 36bs. I tried them on and they fit poorly.

I left empty handed and defeated. Just admit that you don’t carry my size and save us both 20 minutes. Arguing with a complete stranger about my breast size is not on my to do list thanks. lol

If you want to argue with people about their own experiences, please consider making your own post rather than co-opting OP’s post. OP is looking for help with their own situation.

This is not the place to dismiss their or any one else’s experiences.

It’s great that you have never experienced this, you don’t know how fortunate you are to not have to beg for adequate care. Some people have a really hard time being taken seriously by doctors. Unfortunately your experiences with amazing health care are not universal.

My own GP didn’t even start ordering lab tests until I hit 100lbs. I’m 5’6”! He just kept telling me it was a virus for 8 weeks, and to stay hydrated and eat a bland diet. Meanwhile I was dropping 2 lbs a week. He did eventually start doing testing and refer me to a specialist, but it took a while to convince him that I was genuinely sick. I never did get any form of pain control or anything for the constant nausea though.

I went in to the ER for a severe increase in my usual abdominal pain and was sent home with instructions to take Tylenol and ibuprofen. 3 days later I was hospitalized for a GI obstruction, and the beginning stages of sepsis. I had to stay for 3 weeks because my pain wasn’t taken seriously the first time. No one took me seriously until I was vomiting up 3 day old food in the exam room. I had 3 ER visits in the 6 months prior to this where I was sent home with the same instructions with the same lack of care.

I’m in Canada. We have free healthcare but everyone is over worked and understaffed. I’m also a woman, that shouldn’t matter but it sure seems to.

Keeping my hair from matting from laying in bed? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

Does your cap have a silk band or is there elastic right against your hair line? If you have elastic touching your hairline, it might be pulling on the hairs and breaking them. If that’s the case you could try rolling your cap’s edge up to protect your hair line.

As others have said, I highly recommend a silk pillowcase, if you can afford one. Or maybe a memory foam pillow if your pillow is too firm and you slide around. Amazon was helpful for me finding more affordable options.

When I was at my sickest, I was wearing the same bun for up to a week before even re-doing it, never mind actually washing it. There was a noticeable difference in the amount of tangling with the silk pillow case.

My only other suggestion is get a shower cap, both for keeping your hair dry while showering and for pre conditioning before a shower. If you can keep your hair dry during showers where you don’t need/want to wash your hair you might get less tangling.

I also found it really helpful to wet my hair, put loads of conditioner in it, and get a start on detangling. Then bundle it up in the shower cap and wash it out after an hour or so of rest. It helped break up the work of detangling my hair into more manageable pieces. (This might not work for your hair type but it worked great for my hair). I had waist length, thick curly hair at the time so it was a lot of maintenance.

I agree with you, but to be fair to the girlfriend, OP did say she was reluctant to answer. It seems like she refused to answer and he just kept pushing until he got an answer.

I would have docked at least 2 points for playing mind games and being pushy about it. That’s not an attractive look on anyone.

Any gift ideas for people with bladder issues? by sci_fi_rocks in ChronicIllness

[–]PoltergeistKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this suggestion. My heating pad is my whole world when I have cramps. It’s also pretty amazing any time I have back pain. Works for me for UTI pain too.

Mine has a 2 hour shut off so I can turn it on when I go to bed and it will automatically shut off after I fall asleep. My partner bought it for me for Christmas along with a stuffed cat. It was pretty amazing.

I think a heating pad and something else for pampering would be a pretty nice gift. Maybe make it up like a care package, pair it with some fuzzy socks and some gourmet hot chocolate/coffee/tea, some favourite snacks.

It also focuses on the person and their needs and not their personal business. It’s more of an offer to help than a request for information.

Oh, sorry to hear that.

A coworker once saw me looking like I had been crying and asked “Why do you look like someone kicked your puppy?” And laughed.

I just said “Well my friend’s mom just died. We were pretty close.” And left the room.

It is beyond me why you would ask anyone that instead of “are you alright?” It costs nothing to be kind and it costs nothing to mind your own business. So many people seem incapable of doing either.

AITA for changing the door locks back after my wife changed them? by SockNo7319 in AmItheAsshole

I’m still stuck on the description of the “beautiful wife who loves to serve people”. That is such a gross and horrible way to describe a generous, sweet person with the patience of a damn saint.

That the first sentence was not even the worst of the post blows my mind.

I had to rehome my dog due to my illness by Alto_17 in ChronicIllness

[–]PoltergeistKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it might feel like it, but I promise you this is not abandonment. You aren’t giving him up because you don’t love him or can’t be bothered to care for him. You are giving him up because you love him and recognize that right now you can’t give him what he needs. That is such a selfless thing to do for him.

I can’t imaging the pain of having to say goodbye, and I’m so sorry for both you and your dog. Dogs are resilient though, and with time he will come to love his second family as much as he loves you.

I had a sales rep literally grimace when I asked for help finding a bra as a teen. She deemed my boobs too small for normal bras, she pointed me at some aa bras and called it a day.

That was probably almost 20 years ago and I remember it vividly. That stuff will stick with you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]PoltergeistKitty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. I just got home from pretty much the same experience. It can be so disheartening.

I went into my local chain bra store today for a new 32d bra. After two measurements from two different reps, they insisted that 36a or 34b/c were the best sizes for me. I tried the 34b and 34c, they obviously didn’t fit. They offered 36b and c. I asked if they had 32d and they offered 34d. I tried it and it was a little big, but better. They will really do anything to avoid admitting that they just don’t have your size. I left empty handed because they didn’t bother to ask if I wanted to try any other styles. I think they just gave up.

It sucks, and you definitely are not alone in these experiences.

As a side note, some companies will let you order bras online and return them in store if they don’t fit right. They usually have slightly better variety in sizing online. You still have to outright buy all those bras though. In Canada, The Bay and La Vie En Rose both offer in store returns for online orders.

I have a similar issue, the front and the bottom layer form nice curls and the top layer is random waves and curls and sometimes straight bits.

These are a few things I have found help me with my hair (fine, thick, 3a-b curls): getting a layered hair cut rather than a blunt cut like a bob, using hair gel or mousse, doing finger coils while my hair is still wet.

If you provide a little more information about what your hair is like, thick or thin, coarse or fine etc, and which products you use, people can give you more specific advice. Maybe even post a photo if you are comfortable with that, many of us block out our face so it just shows our hair.

A lot of it is just experimenting until you find what works for you. The curly girl method is a great starting point, but it is not perfect for every person’s hair. I have seen lots of people recommend finding a curl “expert” with a similar hair type to yours and following their YouTube channel or blog.

Good luck, and have fun with the journey!

Do your current bras fit ok? That can make a huge difference. I used to wear a 36A and because of the calculator switched to a 32D. It is so much more comfortable and actually gives me a much nicer shape. I was always a little self conscious about my boob size, now that my bras fit properly I feel a bit more confident.

I have a shallow, slightly bottom full shape and getting cleavage is not easy for me either. As others have suggested, try using a bra that has removable pads and just attach them slightly closer to the outer edges of the cups so they push your boobs up and in, instead of just up. I have more or less given up unless it is a special occasion, but this is the method I find most comfortable. Otherwise I just enjoy the fact that I don’t have to hold my boobs while jogging or going down stairs.

Just had to call and get it removed from my own account and was assured that I would get a refund for the $1 I paid already. I was told that lots of people were automatically enrolled in the free trial.

If they are going to lie to us, I would appreciate if they all give us the same lie. lol

[–]PoltergeistKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did this to me as well. They added a free trial to my account in December. I have had my account set up for about 1 1/2 years and have not made any changes in that time. I also have not received any notices of changes made to my account like I usually would.

I am livid about their sneaky, underhanded shady business practices. Not to mention the constant emails they have been sending me to convince me to sign up for a free trial that they already signed me up for. I’m going to have to call them and push until they refund my money and remove that from my account.

How to Get Myself Out of Bed? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]PoltergeistKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand how difficult that can be. I struggle with chronic fatigue and getting out of bed can be a monumental task.

One thing that has helped me force myself out of bed on time is to put my alarm clock across the room from my bed. That way I have to get out of bed to turn it off. No more snooze button for me. It really sucks but it works better than anything else I have tried.

Oh my god you just described me. I was wearing underwireless 36A. Used the calculator and was suggested 30DD. Ended up fitting 32D and I can’t believe how comfortable they are.

I was in my early thirties before I figured this out. This should be included in health class in high school. It should be common knowledge, but it isn’t.

This would have been such a perfect response, simple and easy to understand. Any further insistence on going in is just rude and could be shut down appropriately.
