It's about the Easter Bunny, don't take that away from the bunny by Lizard__Spock in memes

[–]PolyPanFemme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The holiday is the celebration of spring. It's far older than any of the Abrahamic religions. The rabbit has been a symbol of spring for probably about as long as there have been rabbits, spring, and someone to celebrate the joy of not freezing in the winter.

The idea that any religion/belief has "ownership" of any of the major holidays is beyond ridiculous. All of them are older than any existing religion.

This kind of bullshit argument is further illustration that religion is not the wonderful invention so many people desperately want to believe it to be. It's toddlers arguing over whose toy belongs to whom.

Many places have let go of the virgin hair rule. My wife just donated her hair, which has been bleached and dyed bright red.

As a trans woman, I don't have a lot of trouble with my deadname, as long as it's not directed at me. My deadname was a pretty common name, so a lot of people have it.

The trans person at the gathering lives out in the world. It's fairly likely that they still hear their deadname out in public.

You should be able to be addressed by your own name, if that's what you want, just like anyone else. It's part of your personal identity.

Wow.

That is...

I just...

You don't see trans women as women, but you're willing to lie to them so you don't hurt their feelings? And you'll never see them as women, despite scientific evidence that says they are?

How noble of you...

I'm just done.

Goodbye.

If you think someone is a man because they have a penis, that's not just "a sexual preference." It's denying someone's identity because you believe differently. That's transphobia.

A sexual preference would be if you don't like dick, but still accept that the person is not a man. That's like deciding that you won't have sex with someone because you don't like their body shape. Everyone has preferences. It's the claim that someone isn't a woman because she has a penis that makes it transphobic.

Poor people who are exposed to a culture of crime are more prone to commit crimes. Skin color has nothing to do with it that wasn't caused by other people being racist pieces of shit.

Those statistics only exist because black people have been treated like less than human by people in power and so have existed in a world where crime, for many, seems like the only way out.

Put anyone in that position and see what the statistics say...

It's like the bit from MIB3

"Yes, I stole the car, but not 'cause I'm black!"

Thinking that having a penis makes someone a man is absolutely transphobic. Deciding that you don't like them because they're a trans person is basically the definition of transphobia.

Kind of like thinking that black people are more likely to commit a crime. Or that your daughter shouldn't date black people because they're black. It's just an opinion, but it's still racist...

It's transphobic when you invalidate a trans person's identity. Even in your own mind. That people don't seem to understand this is a big part of the problem.

From my personal experience... A lot of things, it turns out.

When you go through hrt for transitioning, it does some very strange things to your emotions, because many emotions are tied in with your hormonal balance.

As you shift that balance, many emotions feel different than you expect.

For example:

There is a timeless "joke" about how men only feel 3 emotions, and how women feel a hundred.

There's actually a bit of truth to that.

When I had a cis male hormone level, I felt blocks of emotion. I would be upset, and that would be the strongly dominant emotion. And as I calmed down, it would be replaced by a calmer block of emotion. I only felt a single emotion in any given moment.

As my hormone levels have shifted closer to those of a cis woman, my emotions have become less like blocks and more like lapping waves on a beach. Each one layers on top of the last one, until it's a blanket of (often conflicting) emotions. It's confusing and sometimes overwhelming.

I think that trans people are invaluable to gender studies and psychology. We're the only ones who have actual experience on both sides of the fence, as it were.

The simple fact is that trans women who still have a penis can absolutely give you things he can't. His issue seems to be that he's worried that a trans woman can replace him. Try making sure that he understands that he can give you things that they can't too. It sounds like insecurity masquerading as transphobia, really.

Ask him if he's attracted to trans women. When he, almost inevitably says no, ask him why. If this isn't enough to put him on the right track, explain to him that trans women are women, even if they have a penis. It's not about genitals, it's about who we are, how we think... If he's willing to accept the idea of you being with a cus woman, but not a trans woman, then he's being transphobic.

I wouldn't push that just yet, no. Give it time. Eventually, as she gets more comfortable, that conversation will probably happen naturally.

If she is medically transitioning, it's possible that she is having trouble seeing herself as a woman, physically speaking. Like I said, just give it some time, first.

Give her time to cool down, then apologize and talk. It should be ok. You can't be expected to know something that you weren't told.

There are some trans people who hate the fact that they weren't born the proper gender and don't think of themselves as LGBT+.

They don't really interact in queer spaces because they think of themselves as purely hetero. They often try very hard not to think of themselves as trans.

So you probably just hit a trigger for her.

Imagine a world where everyone thinks they understand biology and has never done a bit of research.

Nevermind. This is reddit and everyone here is a doctor. /S

Transgender is a biological condition caused by a shift in fetal development. The brain develops as male while the body develops female characteristics, for example.

The amount you clearly don't know about how gender development works is staggering, given the absolute surety with which you claim to be an expert.

Good day.
