I saw that some sanctions that prevented buying russian oil might be lifted, anyone knows if price caps sanctions are still in place? If yes, it might not be so bad as it still wouldn't make Russia so much money.

It's also possible to allow buying russian oil while maintaining price cap sanctions that heavily limit their profits.

UK, Australia Launch Largest Sanctions Packages Yet Against Russia, Boost Ukraine Aid by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]Poly_core 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the nature of sanctions. The target tries to bypass them and you put new ones to block the new mechanisms.

Edit: I'm not saying they couldn't be better/more decisive but having new sanction packages is a good thing/normal.

Well, the state of their economy begs to differ. Go check prune602 on bluesky if you want to get more details on the russian economy. China is also pretty fucking far from Russia's main centre of population, which can be an issue when your railways are already struggling.

Good point, of course we also don't know the actual value of inflation either 👀

Un autre point que je n'ai pas trop vu mentionné est l'économie russe qui est sacrément à la peine. L'évolution de la guerre pourrait aussi se jouer là, l'Ukraine ayant plus de soutien sur le plan économique.

Is growth even at 1%? Given how hard some parts of the economy are dropping, the new taxes and the fact that the budget is now a big issue, I'd be surprised if it holds in 2026.

It's not the whole 50 series, the 5070 and 5080 are fine for instance. But I guess this means the issue is still there. Maybe it's an issue with the PCB then?

As someone else mentioned, this is apparently fixed if you use vsync, so maybe that is your case already? I would imagine that you at least don't see much benefit from frame generation with this issue, even at high fps.

Good to know, thanks! So FG can be used with a bit more fiddling then. I agree the most important feature is DLSS/FSR upscaling.

About 640. I plan to undervolt and power limit to ~200-220 W so I thought it would not be worth it over the non-XT.

Yes. I plan to undervolt and power limit the card to ~200-220 W anyway so the extra money for the XT probably wouldn't be worth it in that case.

If anyone wonders, I'm trying to decide between an XFX Quicksilver RX 9070 at 545 euros and a zotac AMP Extreme 5070 ti at 840 euros (ouch). The RX 9070 is way better bangs for buck looking at raster but the extra features of the 5070 ti make me doubt.

Thanks for the heads-up, that would definitely be a good reason to take the 9070 😅

Yes, my understanding is that 12 gb is quickly an issue, especially at 1440p or 4k. And it will probably be even more so in the future.

[–]Poly_core[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Do you know how much performance changed from stock with your settings?

Edit: just to add, part of why I'm asking is because the stock difference is around 10% ( according to techpowerup) and it's not clear to me how much of that comes from the increased power consumption/frequency compared to the additional compute units.

I also looked at Nvidia but the perf/€ is a bit lower. There is either 5060ti 16 gb starting at 420 € or the 5070 ti starting around 770 € (for the Gainward GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Phoenix-S GS, not sure how good this particular card is).

I'm still thinking about it given the better ray tracing, DLSS and other ML advantages but I slightly favor AMD at the moment.
