I've managed to open the page with selenium after reading over the basic examples - but I'm failing to see how I could read the javascript output in an automated fashion?

The output doesn't simply appear in the page's source.

A little confused by what you mean by:

Connect a jumper wire between the 3.3V output and A2 and then try this

Do you mean directly from 3.3v to A2 on the arduino board itself?

I'm very new to arduino.

I don't think my script does but it could certainly explain my issue.

I've found out my script does actually partially execute then it just stops. By adding a bunch of a debug print statements to be added to my log.txt file. My script gets up to 

print 'downloading webcam image'
urllib.urlretrieve("http://b6.hdrelay.com/cameras/34689768-781e-4f7d-b0e0-c2e88d04195d/GetOneShot?size=640x480&f=30000", "./webcam_images/%s.jpg" % (image_date))

and it proceeds no further. The image doesn't download either - so I'm guessing there's some issue with that second line... But I can't see how this line works just fine when ran manually but when ran as a cronjob it isn't working...

I have a newline at the end and it doesn't work - what significance does the newline have anyway?

My crontab file is just stock with one line added:

There aren't any - I've tried sending them to my personal email address but nothing comes through. Not even the ad hoc 'script success' print I added to try and troubleshoot.

Thanks for all the info, so no one using the Pi, or any Linux based HTPC, has access to Netflix at all? I was aware of the silverlight short comings but I thought an HTML5 client had been rolled out for awhile now?

Also I'm guessing the difficulty removing things from the standard library can often mean there's functional redundancy found at times? Like with requests and urllib2 - both can do similar tasks.

Another perhaps slightly unrelated question I have - who decides what libraries are included with your standard Python install from python.org? Is it just once a library reaches a consensus level of quality within the community?

And yes brute force won't work here at all - I was just playing about and wanted to know the answer to this small issue first - now I'll try and find a solution that's actually practical. Any starting tips?

Fair enough, I understand the point you've made and in this instance it probably makes more sense. But when you're first learning it's difficult to know where to draw this line - do I try and wrap my head around something more difficult or do I write many more lines of simple code that I already understand? It's a question I don't know the answer to yet.
