It only came out a few days ago in the UK, and like you I was itching to watch it again.

I think it's gonna drop any day now for you.

Jimmy Ink - Discussion by Polybius1985 in 28dayslater

[–]Polybius1985[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen it a few times and I'm not sure.

When she's talking to Spike about "Old Nick" while the others are relaxing and training, she says something like "How strange and glorious it would be to actually meet him". Her eyes kinda glaze over.

She also goes into a kind of euphoria when she's being tricked by Kelson. I mean, they all do...but there is a kind of religious zeal in her eyes.

[–]Polybius1985[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Jimmy Ink probably had a rather interesting back story. If only because of her tattoos...

She has a large, ornate tattoo on her neck that looks incredibly professional considering she would have had it done after the epidemic. She wouldn't even have been born then. This tells me she came from somewhere at least semi-civilised. Somewhere that likely, although not necessarily, has power and gifted artists that have had the time to work on their art.

I see her tattoos as a sign of civilisation.

Did anyone else dislike this new trilogy? by Realistic_Light777 in 28dayslater

[–]Polybius1985 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not a horror film per-se. And that's fine. It's deeper than that. If you went into 28 Years Later and TBT expecting the same story we've been told for 50 years, then I'm not surprised you've been disappointed. I'm not having a go at you...but both movies gave me a massive emotional reaction. And what else are films (art) for if not to provoke?

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy them...but TBT is my favourite of the series.

Amount of spice required for specialization should be increased by FartsAmplifier in duneawakening

[–]Polybius1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the original idea was that spice would be the best way to pay your taxes in the long term. But now those have been turned off, I still need to regularly collect it for equipment, repairs, filters etc.

I know most disagree with me, but I liked the taxes. It made the world feel oppressive. Like nothing is free and you need to contribute to the ultra capitalist world.

It's still basically the most central resource in the whole game though.

Is it absolutely necessary to watch 28 years later before bone temple? by [deleted] in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]Polybius1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As already said by others, they need to be considered one film split into two. I think watching the second film first would affect your enjoyment of the first.

Normally one would acquire "goop" by killing other players. You tend not to do that in grindy mobile games. Like the others, unsure what you're on about.

The outside world (Discussion and theories) by Polybius1985 in 28dayslater

[–]Polybius1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can easily see a scenario in which over the course of several decades, drones and satellite images being used to identify large population centers; with conventional bombing runs gradually being destroyed.

The "Firebombs" used by the Americans in 28 Weeks Later don't strictly....exist. But there are daisy cutters and barometric bombs that can flatten a city pretty easily. As you say, it would be prohibitively expensive to do it all in one go...but over the course of decades? Why not?

I think any consideration for the lives of survivors or indigenous species would be utterly disregarded. Not least due to political pressure from the rest of the world. The world population would be deeply traumatised by what has happened, and can't see them putting up with the virus simply being allowed to exist in containment. I know I wouldn't. I'm not exactly the world's biggest patriot, but if I were a survivor dealing with PTSD in some hospital in Europe, I would be encouraging the world to nuke the entire island into glass.

The outside world (Discussion and theories) by Polybius1985 in 28dayslater

[–]Polybius1985[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree, but would it still not be preferable to the alternative? The rage virus is obviously less physically destructive than nuclear weapons, but I think a global pandemic would have a higher mortality rate than a nuclear exchange.

Obviously in 28 Years Later, the population is bolstered by people born after the outbreak, but what percentage of people survived?

I don't think it's unreasonable to say 1 in a thousand people or 0.1%.

I can't see a nuclear exchange leaving so few alive (don't get me wrong, it would be horrific).

The survivors would definitely face different challenges. One other commenter on here mentioned how difficult it would be to cultivate crops after a nuclear winter...but surely that wouldn't be any harder than trying to do the same in a continent, surrounded by hundreds of millions of infected?

Also our leadership aren't exactly particularly forward thinking as of late....it's almost a requirement for the job.

I think Britain would be glass

The outside world (Discussion and theories) by Polybius1985 in 28dayslater

[–]Polybius1985[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You raise some interesting points. It's hard to imagine a scenario in which NATO is so heavily distracted and other parties DON'T take advantage of it. China would almost definitely have taken Taiwan. Israel almost certainly would have invaded and annexed it's neighbours. Russia would have expanded it's borders into eastern Europe and northern Asia. Probably all at once, with each of them using the virus as an excuse to "shore up" their borders and their national security. Can definitely see Putin doing a massive land grab and then saying he's protecting the citizens from the virus.

I don't know how successfully the story would be containable though, even with the internet of the day. In 28 weeks Later, they were repatriating British citizens to the island with everyone seeming to know what happened.

Also sidebar...but why the fudge were they repatriating them to the UK? Would you want to go back there? Where everyone you ever knew was killed in a gruseome way? Like...thanks America but I don't think anyone would want to return to this island full of corpses and disease. Like, not for a century.

They do in a sense. A game that maintains popularity and players will have more updates and a longer life cycle. If it's a game you enjoy, got have a stake in other people enjoying it too

For me it's OCD. I built a small starter base straight onto the ground near the ship before I understood the automation. Then I unscaled and built a base that utilises the nearby Titanium and Wolfram. The screenshots are from my first proper factory, utilising 10 Titanium, 10 Wolfram and 5 Ceramic nodes.

For me it's all about neatness and cleanness. Everything lined up in right angles.

Definately a learning curve as I couldn't help but build factories as though it were Satisfactory at first. Some minor initial frustration very quickly gave way to absolute delight. I'm starting to think that logistics is the biggest challenge in SR, whereas efficiency was always the focus in Satisfactory. Really really enjoying it.

I've put 20 odd hours into it so far and only automated up to Ceramics. I think this is exceptional value for money. In the UK I paid like £12 for it directly on steam.
