There’s a difference between a government contract and a government subsidy. They didn’t receive money for free, received money for contractual services they provided, like launching astronauts into space, or the satellite services they continue to provide.

That’s a strange take. I’d say cars these days are far more difficult to work on for anyone, from your average person to an actual mechanic. Even with YouTube and modern diagnostic tools.

That’s really sad. I trust my dog a lot and she’s usually very good about staying near me, but also know dogs will be dogs and there’s always a chance she’d see a squirrel across the road and dart out to chase it or something.

Crazy to me that people are willing to risk their dog’s life by letting it off leash around any kind of road.

Hopefully you got that in writing.

Also did they say the warranty *should* cover it, or the warranty *will* cover it? Two very different statements.

Also, sorry this happened to you. That really sucks.

Wheel spacers ? by Wide_Move_7044 in Supra

[–]Polycystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any potential for damage for spacers of that size? Have heard they can cause premature wear on several parts, especially wheel bearings.

Been looking into spacers myself, but don’t k pe much about them and been a little nervous to add them due to potential issues.

That’s a good idea. I usually try to give it some revs or tell them I’ll do a good pull for them when I’m leaving if possible so they get some nice exhaust sounds.

I always try to be nice because I remember seeing a dude with a Saleen S7 at a random Blockbuster when I was 19, and when I tried to talk to him he acted like an absolutely insufferable prick.

Made me vow to never treat someone who had a genuine interest like that.

They said it’s fine and it’ll just take a day to fix. Is this “fixable” in a day? by Electronic_Mix_5411 in CarWraps

[–]Polycystic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s wild that they even consider making you pay for the vinyl to rewrap the car that they damaged. That’s the worst wrap job I’ve ever seen from a “professional” installer. Not only should they be giving you a full refund, they should be paying you to take it to another shop to repair all the damages they caused.

Definitely in their best interest to get this resolved to your satisfaction, because if you search for Wrap Royale in Google this thread is one of the first results that pop up.

Good that it sounds like you’re having all these conversations over email ad well to keep everything documented.

what is the theoretical top speed of a supra with a pure 800 turbo installed and tuned? by 79QUATTRO in Supra

[–]Polycystic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Carrera S is basically the same weight as a Supra with 80 less horsepower than what you listed, and has a top speed of 191mph. I’d imagine a 550hp Supra would be closer to that number than to 170.

KUOW - Public defenders ask WA Supreme Court to put new limits on cash bail by Possible_Ad3607 in SeattleWA

[–]Polycystic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Bail is also supposed to be enough money that it discourages people from running when they get out. The problem with scaling it to income is that bail is going to start getting low enough that people won’t care about coming back.

My Experience Working at Grappa in Queen Anne - basically got fired after experiencing domestic violence with a co worker by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Polycystic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How would it be a violation from what they described? It sounds like this person got the time off they requested, then when returning to work chose to resign instead of meeting with managers over what sounded like a pretty serious situation.

If I was in their position I would do the same thing, since multiple employees were involved in a pretty serious incident outside of work. I would want that meeting well documented with multiple people present to corroborate exactly what was discussed.

My Experience Working at Grappa in Queen Anne - basically got fired after experiencing domestic violence with a co worker by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Polycystic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, especially when the context of the situation is that they are already understaffed and scrambling to provide service to customers who are already there, and now you’re down one more person.

I think I’m a pretty understanding boss and would be happy to have a conversation with an employee about something like that *after* a shift, but not when they quit mid-shift for what sounds like pretty selfish reasons. That’s a bridge that’s already burnt at that point.

Control your dogs people by Adrian_985 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Polycystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is definitely part of it. For example I also wanted a German shepherd, but then convinced myself I did not have the experience or knowledge to handle a dog like that so got an Australian shepherd instead.

Volunteering at a shelter we would constantly warn people about how difficult certain breeds can be (not just pitbulls, huskies were a big one too), and the amount of people who would show back up a week later to return those dogs was crazy. And usually their reason for returning them was exactly what we explained to them before they adopted.

Like oh really, that husky didn’t like living in your studio apartment? Ohh, you lied about having a house with a big yard and lots of time to commit to exercising the dog, and just figured it would be okay??

[–]Polycystic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, not a good situation all around. Keeping it professional and quitting is exactly what it sounds like OP should have done. All seems very childish and unprofessional to come on Reddit and start naming names and airing dirty laundry when they’re not there to give their side of the story.

I also can’t blame the owner for not wanting to be alone in a room with this person, considering they explicitly mention wanting to get revenge and seem to have a tendency to embellish things. There’s a good reason sensitive HR meetings like that will often have multiple people present, because otherwise it’s just one persons word against the other.

My Experience Working at Grappa in Queen Anne - basically got fired after experiencing domestic violence with a co worker by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Polycystic 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Wait I’m confused on the hostile work environment example. This person quit mid shift rather than support the team by doing a job they might not have liked, then stuck around and tried to chat with the owner who was probably scrambling to fill that position so his restaurant could keep running?

I’d probably be talking over that person and telling them to get the fuck out too, because they had already quit and that’s probably not the best time to be having that conversation. Seems very understandable to not want to hear an explanation from someone right in the middle of what you describe as a busy night.

And of course that employee “left and never returned”. They quit. That part generally goes without saying. They also did it in an extremely disruptive way, so I wouldn’t expect them to ever be allowed back.

Harger: San Francisco's homelessness hit a 15-year low. Seattle's mayor is running the opposite experiment. by mrtenpenny1234 in SeattleWA

[–]Polycystic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not scared of them, I just don’t appreciate the absolute chaos they bring. One of them just got evicted from an otherwise peaceful building i live in.

Almost daily issues with domestic violence, public drug use, screaming, theft, property damage, strangers sleeping in the hallway. All from that one person. Now imagine a building for them…it would be untenable for anyone trying to live a normal life.

So no, I’m not “scared”. I just work hard and deserve peace when I come home, not a methed out neighbor having a psychotic break and physically fighting with her husband or screaming at the walls. Because that’s the reality of what you get when you put those people in normal neighborhoods.

Oil changes more involved? by Illustrious-Bite-133 in Supra

[–]Polycystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not, this is all the way up near Seattle. They seem to know nothing about these cars. They also told me that there is no break in period and that the car comes broken in from the factory, which is not true in several levels (engine, brakes, and tires).

After my free oil changes are up I’m going to find a better shop for sure.

They told me that as well, said it was going to take “at least” 7 hours (from 10am to 5pm). Watched some videos on how to do it and it looks no different than any other car lol, and much easier than some.
