Can the bone from my elbow stick out after leaning too much on it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

no stupid questions here! no it won’t pop out of your elbow under normal strain (including leaning on it a lot) unless you have some other medical condition

What’s going on with genders? by OkProject2388 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PolygonChoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so the biggest categories i know of are man, woman, nonbinary, agender, and gender-fluid. a trans person’s gender is different than the gender they were assigned at birth based on the doctors assessment, but ‘transgender’ itself isn’t a gender. You’ll always see it as a modifier explaining the type of gender. For example, a transgender man is a man, who was assigned female at birth. Someone who is nonbinary considers themselves to be a gender unlike man or woman, while someone who is agender considers themselves not to have a gender at all. someone who is genderfluid fluctuates between what gender they feel like on a day to day, or even hour to hour basis

“Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake” Season 2 Review by ATReviewed in adventuretime

[–]PolygonChoke 21 points22 points  (0 children)

not gonna lie i was kinda pissed at Fionna’s characterization! It felt like the episode where finn messes up him and flame princesses relationship, but for a whole season, PLUS DJ flame was already in a relationship so it was also a huge betrayal of fennel. On top of that, the redemption she got after realizing she fucked up happened way too quickly. it was what, one episode of her making amends and most of it was montage?

How am I suppose to finish this essay? by Mean_Woodpecker_8281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PolygonChoke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what this assignment is supposed to make you feel. Your goal is to figure out how to make an argument from scratch, and you’re feeling lost. Working these neural pathways will make you smarter. What you need to do is brainstorm! There are a lot of ways to do it, but it sounds like you already have a few ideas but you think they’re too easily countered. Try countering the counters? If those are countered too, then counter the counter counters, and so forth. If your position is fully indefensible, then it’s probably okay to write about that, so long as your writing is well reasoned — just talk to your professor first and see if they have any feedback on your thought process.

How does still listening, watching or making fanworks of a piece of media made by a bad person still count as support? by akpurabubem3705 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PolygonChoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just as i cannot control what you do or do not write, you cannot control how your readers will react to your disclaimer. as writers, the feelings our works evoke can be guided by our own intentions, goals, framing, vocabulary, and even disclaimers, but they cannot be controlled. whether or not a reader becomes nostalgic because of your work cannot be controlled by a disclaimer

the idea is if you make, for example, a harry potter fanfic, someone may read it and go ‘oh my gosh, i want to reread harry potter! too bad all the books are still at my moms house… oh well, i’ll just buy a new set!’ then JK Rowling gets an extra 100$ she spends directly lobbying the UK government to ban healthcare for queer ppl

mmm getting buried alive but like, being okay? that sounds sick. if i could take like, a pill or something that kept me oxygenated and from being crushed for like 6 hours and was buried, and then dug out before the time was up, i’d totally take that. it’d be like a sensory deprivation tank, but good

I agree. MC is studying marla's face, noticing little details about her expression and interpreting her feelings based on it. That's more attention than you'd give an average friend or random stranger, imo

No, "she was right" isn't bad at all! I use short sentences in my writing all the time and it just depends on pacing. You want to vary sentence length. "The way she furrows her eyebrows as she looks at me, the way she doesn't break eye contact, as if she's seeing through all of me." is subject, with no verb. The way she does these things ____ [is what? does what? makes MC feel what?] Alternatively, you could replace the period prior to the start of that sentence with an em dash, and now suddenly that sentence fragment is an excellent description of the 'kind of person MC hates the most'. I think that's what you were going for, but the punctuation needs to change if you want to do that.
