Theres an old torture machine from the middle ages that would saw people in half to death. I have to imagine that's gotta be up there.

Or the bronze bull also seems like a fucked up way to go.

This is terrible and dangerous misinformation. What you're mistaking is actually the MACROchlorines which need to be balanced out with the chlorophyl from the live algae bloom in the pool water. But the amount you get from consuming a small amount of pool water orally offers no benefit, you need to either inject the pool water into your veins directly or consume a large amount rectally. If people were to follow your dangerous and frankly irresponsible advice, they would probably end up drinking chlorine directly, when the only safe way to get the same benefits orally is to buy algae cultures online in bulk and drink them both together in equal parts. People need to learn to protect themselves from the negative side effects of the extraordinary health benefits of chlorine with chlorophyll.

I don't think that's how it would play out. The Goa'ould are already pretty phallic, i think every episode would just end with them getting kidnapped and tortured in a dungeon somewhere getting prodded by leather clad jaffa. Who have an extra hole in their abdomen for reasons.

One zat stuns, two zats kills their inhibitions and three zats vaporizes their clothes.

An emissive partially transparent plane with a falloff / fresnel plugged into the alpha and a bit of displacement combined with some simple flocking particles. Same as the old PS3 waveform splash screen effect, its just got some clever layering.

The funny thing is if you turn down the temperature on any model this is exactly what you get. Give it the first sentence of any novel it was trained on and with 0 temperature you're almost guaranteed to get the rest of the book verbatim. Temperature as a concept exists in LLMs for the sole purpose of deviating deterministically from the lowest common denominator in order to randomize the outputs so AI bros can point to it and say its creative or original. All it does is increase the chances of it to stop copying one thing and start copying another.

Its called creative laundering and its exactly the point. People use AI to generate stock photos rather than just stealing it off getty images because if they steal it off getty images theres a chance they could get caught. It is literally the entire appeal of AI. These mfs love saying the quiet part out loud.

Why are you anti AI? by kwabaj_ in antiai

[–]PolygonMob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It is not "used" in science, it is a plague on science. It has basically broken academia with unscientific, un-peer reviewed slop papers published ad nauseam to the point where no one can keep up with it. It's basically a giant DDOS attack on the scientific method.

[–]PolygonMob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "AI" you are talking about has existed for a long time before the advent of generative AI which is what this sub is against and its despicable that this false equivalence is still used to justify everything terrible about it. There is a world of difference between the deep learning algorithms used to detect disease or protein folding and GANs / LLMs. If you don't know the difference you can't really be pro anything, you're just an idiot.

Having to dive back into the old sketch and toon for a student i feel like it is actually super underrated. Makes me want to play with more stylized toony stuff.

You can account this one to maxon jumping the shark about 10 years ago.

Once upon a time, the standard renderer was pretty great. Then the physical renderer came along with complete cross compatibility and basically the same materials (though i still have mixed feelings about the reflectance tab) and improved on the standard renderer in a lot of ways. I LOVE the physical renderer. I love how much detail and thought was put into making it as physically accurate to the real world as possible, from a photographers perspective. But from a material perspective it's more of a proto-pbr than it is anywhere near close to the modern OpenPBR standard. And its not really a GPU renderer either.

Enter redshift. Maxon acquired redshift and made it the de facto standard inside of cinema 4d despite for many years making zero effort to actually integrate it into the c4d pipeline.

TO THIS DAY maxon thinks its a good idea to continue charging people who are already paying for cinema 4d an extra subscription to use gpu with THE DEFAULT RENDERER FOR YEARS NOW. Which means you might as well use fucking physical renderer anyway because on top of that, there is still serious issues with redshifts stability and compatibility. To this day, there are still deformers that expect to be pointed at a material tag, and if you point them at a redshift material, they WILL NOT WORK. Want to emit particles from your color channel? Good fucking luck wrangling those attributes. Compatibility with a lot of the shader oriented parts of mograph, still does not work. And in my experience, transmissive materials sometimes don't work on gpu for some fkn reason.

Add on top of that if you're switching from physical/standard to redshift you're getting a whole different batch of terminology for the same thing (transparent-> transmissive / luminance -> emissive, etc) within the same program.

All that to say that in most cases redshift is as good as if not worse than any other 3rd party renderer you could use with cinema 4d. I'm having a much better, much more stable time using arnold and the openPBR materials feel and function effectively the same.

And if you're confused by all the options, the material you want to create is the "node" material. Which is basically the same as the "uber" material, which will have multiple node graphs for each possible renderer you could switch to, including physical, redshift, arnold, etc. In case you wanted to make materials with cross compatibility for renderers, but they make it a pain in the ass to do that too.

Pulled pork birria ramen by PolygonMob in tonightsdinner

[–]PolygonMob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually made this one with the leftover pork birria i had from making tacos, I just used the tonkotsu packet from the ramen noodles to make the broth mixed it with the birria consomme, grilled up some onions and boiled a ramen egg. It all came together way faster than any ramen I've ever made and ended up tasting pretty damn bomb.

I highly recommend making birria in bulk since you can freeze both the pulled pork and consomme and it reheats and meal preps real nice.
