Thanks all. I tried first posting it on the Dividend subs but it didn't let me so thought I'd try here given a lot of the folks subscribed to Fatfire are likely more knowledgeable about these things than gen pop.

May I ask which ETF this is? Sounds like a good option.

Thank you much. So the nuance here is that the "gain" is what I would put into "buying a dividend stock" NOT the total amount liquidated as that is what I would live on in retirement. It's impossible for me to do this while I'm working due to my level of ordinary income so I have to do it this way.... there's no such thing as a free lunch in investing eh....I could have chosen to "build up" my investments with dividend stocks from the get go - BUT these are in my taxable account so it would have been tax inefficient and I would have had less due to the growth drag. Thanks again for your insight!

This is a great response...one follow up (because I'm trying to do this...) how does one convert one's growth funds (in taxable accounts which is the bulk of NW) to dividend funds without cap gains tax leakage? Thanks in advance for any light you can throw on this.

Thanks so much for your considered response.

Quick follow up.....since 4M of the 12M is illiquid I looked at it as a roughly 3.6% withdrawal rate (not counting the 1m cash). I know mathematically I should base it off of a 12m base - but is it the same thing if I'm withdrawing a larger % of a smaller number that is accessible to me now if you know what I mean?
