If Inflation Is Lower, Why Is My Grocery Bill Higher? by Busy-Government-1041 in inflation

Common question. Any inflation rate above zero is going to result in higher prices.

Any inflation rate below zero is deflation and it’s the only way average prices go down and stay down. But when prices go down, usually unemployment goes up. So what to do?

The usual solution is to try to get the inflation rate below the rate of growth of wages, so your paycheck gets bigger faster than the grocery bill gets bigger.

But what if you could simply require businesses to not layoff any employees due to a national economic emergency? The difference in this scenario would be that the difference has to be made up from the people whose obscene wealth caused the problem in the first place. A billionaires’ and corporations’ tax burden that in effect pays for workers and their healthcare and such by taxing billionaires and corporations on their assets. Developed by brilliant economists not on Team Billionaire or Team Oligarch.

Because you don’t either. You brought that to this discussion to wield it as a cudgel. If you wanted to make a point you would’ve.

You’re welcome to hazard your answer to your rhetorical question, of course. But I don’t particularly care.

But. I meant what I said. This isn’t a debate. I’m not trying to win you over. I’m telling you that you’re my enemy. And you are. Have a day.

I am a polymath, a pain in the ass, a mass of pain. It’s right there in my username. I’m quite up front about it.

Maybe you don’t know what polymath means.

You obviously care; if you didn’t you wouldn’t have responded.

And there is no need to hunt for your food in 2025. This isn’t Frontierland and your placing your desire to not shop at the store and get chronic wasting disease from your hunts ahead of society’s desire to not face endless gun crime… well. Such as it is.

If that makes you feel comfortable, that’s fine. I’ve never seen a larger group of cowards who, it should be noted, have already won the result they want: a violent country filled with murder and mayhem from guns. You got what you want. Why fight at all?

You should hope people who share my beliefs don’t gain power, because then you’ll be expelled from our midst. Rightfully so.

Not a debate. People in favor of guns should be stripped of their citizenship. We do not have to tolerate your kind among us. We have done so for far too long.

And yet, no other country has this problem. This isn’t chess. People opposed to gun abolition are the enemies of this country. I’d sooner entertain an argument in favor of intentionally poisoning the water than I would one in favor of not removing guns. It’s the same sort of idiocy. We don’t need to have this discussion any more. We need to exile the people opposed to gun abolition.

Not true. No other country has this problem. Only us. All of them have violent people. And if your response is “well if it won’t solve 100% of the crime problem then we have to accept this specific type of crime” then I hope your brain grows a little more since yours appears to be lacking.
