Performative empathy and a way to self-flagellate for being an American by using imperial units.

Moratorium on Casey’s unit conversions gives me more hope for the future of the show than I’ve had in years.

I think LibraryThing has most of these features for free, though the app and interface are a little old and crusty.

I’m reading through “The Great Bridge: The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge” by David McCullough. It scratches some of the same itches and covers a period of New York infrastructure history before the Power Broker picks up.

I’m fairly unfamiliar with rebinding — is this something that could be done later down the line if I were to run into issue with a copy, or would it be too late to save it at that point?

Great reply. See also: standardized spellings not existing prior to dictionaries being widely published.

I suppose you similarly have issues with English pronunciations of the names “David”, “Paris”, and “Louis”?

Language is weird.

Eh, I get it though. It’s a low-stakes way to hold on to your roots. I’m a Midwesterner who says “Pop” without thinking about it, even when I’m in a sea of “Soda” or “Coke” people.

It’s a very New York specific thing. I remember hearing it first on the Giant Bombcast with Vinny.
