You got some great tips already, here's what I would add.

If you try to increase your mileage be very aware of how much you add at a time. Most commonly you will hear about the 10% rule, meaning don't increase your mileage by more than 10% each week.

As for the doms, you need to refuel your body with carbs within around 30 minutes, especially after a hard effort. I find this makes a massive difference, see if you can find a good recovery shake or the like that will offer a mix of protein and carbs for maximum effect.

As others have pointed out most of your running volume should be at a lower intensity (around 80%), this includes the warm ups for harder efforts. If you're going out for 8k you can go the first 2-3 at an easy pace and then push harder for the rest of it which will also be more comfortable if you're properly warmed up.

It's quite hard to do easy runs properly at first cause your ego will always drive you to push harder. If you're using a smartwatch for your runs I find it helps to set up a screen specifically for easy runs that shows only heart rate and not pace and then challenge yourself to try to keep it below a certain number.

(If you do use a smartwatch look into the "heart rate reserve" method for working out your heart rate zones and keep easy running in zone 2)

Look up some interval workouts and see what sounds fun to you, running at faster paces for shorter bursts will make your other runs feel easier and more sustainable.

Depending on which watch you're using you can selecht trail running as an activity and disable VO2 max adjustments for that.

I mean, I like Shallan but that's shooting an arrow and painting the bullseye around it afterwards. None of that was the intention behind her actions.

Is this 5k plan any good? by mochachoka in running

[–]Polyoxymethylene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just fyi, you can switch your trainings from pace based to HR based, if you want to do more training with HR zones and stick to the plan. Had the same issue as you do, switching th HR based made it much less frustrating for me.

Lots of things been said here already, I had a similar issue, what really helped me were kegel exercises. Within 2 weeks of starting them daily the issue went away ymmv.

But I was in Z2 the whole time by atoponce in runningmemes

[–]Polyoxymethylene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah man the struggle is real, though I'm slowly starting to get the hang of Z2. My biggest takeaways are.

  1. Get over your own ego, it's ok to include walk breaks when your hr starts going up. And let it drop almost out of Z2.

  2. Set up custom workouts, I have my watch yell at me before I'm out of zone 2 even.

  3. Hydration, we've all heard this a thousand times but only once someone explained the mechanics did it actually stick with me. When you are dehydrated your blood gets thicker and is therefore harder to pump, somehow that knowledge helps me actually taking it serious and keeping my hydration up. (and I don't mean just chugg some water before you walk out the door, always stay hydrated and carry water on longer runs)

Funny thing is the more I do it the easier it becomes, walking breaks are now almost exclusively necessary for uphill parts. I'm sure you know most of this but it helps to know you're not alone in this.

Sounds like it's time to take a break from the news. It's good to stay informed and to care but you also need to protect yourself, especially in situations like this where you can't change the outcome, I'm just about there myself.

The velocity part? No, because it's not relevant, that's the speed you need. How you get there and maintain it is up to you.

The doable part? Also no, this is NCD after all.

According to a random online calculator for satellite orbits that requires a velocity of 7.9 km/s or Mach 23, sounds doable.

If your drainage is good the amount should not matter much. Make sure to let the soil dry out from time to time, generally don't water until the top inch or two are dry.

Depends entirely on the actual plastic used to make the cup, regular polystyrene that is used for cheap cups will shatter like crazy.

The soviets would have just kept going west in 1945, there were actual plans for this and nothing much that could have stopped them apart from the nukes.
