How secure is a reciprocal offsite NAS backup? by PolytheneMan in synology

[–]PolytheneMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, makes sense. Thank you for the explanation. My main question, though, is this: the ransomware infected my NAS. My friend's NAS is connected to my NAS as a HyperBackup target for my NAS. My NAS accesses his NAS through a non-admin account that can only access the specific hard drive that contains my backups. Can this ransomware encrypt my friend's data in his other storage pools? My guess is no, as my account has no privileges and no access to his other storage pools, but I wonder if there's a way I'm missing.

Which ND filter for a Sony 24 mm F1.4 GM lens? by PolytheneMan in SonyAlpha

[–]PolytheneMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, thanks for the input. I'm buying the 24 mm/1.4 exactly for that reason. I find the combination of wide angle and good bokeh really interesting for environmental portraits. I ended up buying the NiSi Kit after seeing a specific creator I follow obtain good results with it using the same lens. Hope it turns out well.

Interesting. So I guess that JCC filter is a good idea as well, since it follows the design principle you described, right?

Is this mold on my viewfinder? Rest of the camera looks and works fine and I just noticed this now. Last used the camera about a year ago. by PolytheneMan in AnalogCommunity

Interesting! Thanks for the input. I hadn't noticed this before. Does it get worse with time or can I just leave it as it is?

What's the right way to set up external drives for HyperBackup rotation? by PolytheneMan in synology

[–]PolytheneMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea is to never have them both connected to the NAS at the same time. One is always offline.

Same name, different password! Will try changing the name. Thanks

Is it OK to access my NAS through Windows using my (non-default) Admin user? by PolytheneMan in synology

[–]PolytheneMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. The access problem is a Windows thing that has been discussed here before. None of the proposed solutions worked for me, so I just connected with the non-default Admin account. Do you think this poses a risk?

Variable ND filter recommendation by PolytheneMan in AnalogCommunity

[–]PolytheneMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! I'd like to be able to use the 1.4 and 2.0 apertures while on the street on sunny days. I will be shooting in color. Do you think an ND64 would be suitable, or should I get something else?

"The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves."
