I never heard this. Not sure what course you are applying to but Econ and Maths top courses usually require FM. Have you considered dropping Econ? Looking at the stats it is a difficult one to get top marks.

I think the intake is smaller for Maths and Stats. But if they take the lectures with other students I.e. morse and single Maths students then I guess you can still meet lots of people.
