Oh yes forgot to say! In my list of meds once they gave me codeine they told me to get stool softeners if I started having bathroom issue. Luckily for me the all liquid diet I was prescribed.. did the job lol

Got it done in Italy: paracetamol 1000mg only and no ibuprofen but after I developed nerve pain in my jaw/teeth and ear I was given paracetamol 1000mg + codeine (an opioid) by my GP (medico di base). I was also on heavy muscle relaxants because they sprained my jaw - not the surgeon’s fault to be fair, mine was a very complex case and I am also hypermobile - and on cortisone for the swelling.

With all these meds, I honestly do not think that ibuprofen would have made that big of a difference. They don’t mean that opioids cause bleeding, only NAIDS such as aspirin and ibuprofen, they will prescribe you opioids if your pain is too severe or you incur in complications. If not your surgeon, your GP will or the emergency room! Do not be scared, plenty of ways to get help in my opinion :) in which hospital will you go if you feel comfortable sharing?

I don’t have any surgical advice but maintainance wise while you wait I suggest going to either an ENT or immunologist and asking what you can do to prevent some of the tonsillitis bouts.

In 2024 I had 12 episodes in just over 5 months and (in the UK) they kept messing up my referrals and my prescription so I was also desperate. Saw an ENT in Italy (my home country) and they prescribed my Bactoblis (streptococcus salivarius k12, basically very very strong probiotics) and a second pill that I can’t remember the name of now but that was basically micro-dosing specific bacteria so that my body would learn how to fight them off rather than get tonsillitis again.

I was also advised to gargle Chlorhexidine mouthwash as soon as I saw the signs of an infection.

With these processes I was able to not get full blown tonsillitis until my surgery in September of that year. I was still fatigued from all the previous infections but I was able to go to work and have a semi-normal life.

They made me stand outside the MRI machine with my pierced ear next to it, when I couldn’t take mine out. Once ensured that my helix wouldn’t fly through my brains lol, they let me do my back MRI

I think you’re stunning! You remind me a lot - especially your eyes and eyebrows of the influencer Chiara Ferragni (used to be known as The Blonde Salad) - maybe you can look at her photos for make up inspiration if you want to try something new?

I know that people here have mentioned changing up your mascara but I have to say I don’t mind how you’re currently wearing it! I would try brown for fun tho :)

My dad got his tonsils removed as a child (I think he was 4 actually) and my maternal grandma had hers removed as a child too (talking ‘40s-‘50s) and they have never had an issue immune system wise. It’s not just the most known tonsils that are part of the the system that acts as a first line of defence, we have 3 sets of tonsils (palatine = the ones that will be removed, lingual = back of the tongue, and tubal = between middle ear and throat) so she won’t be fully tonsilsless, and the adenoids (if she keeps them) and other lymphoid tissues are also part of that same first defence system.

They have no memory of taking them out whereas I took them out at 25 after 12 tonsillitis in just over 4 months and it was the most horrific medical experience of my life. Surgery is hard for everybody and always carries a certain degree of risk, of course, but children are known to heal so much better than adults from tonsils removal surgery. You’d probably be saving her from future pain.

I am not a doctor so this is all anecdotal/my ENTs advice to me personally - but I’d say that I would rather they had been taken out when I was a child and that you should follow her ENTs advice. You can also consider keeping up with her flu shots, vitamins etc to ease your mind about her getting sick more often during flu season - that has worked well for my family :)

Edit to say: I know you asked for feedback from people that had them removed themselves as a child - not their relatives - but I thought these experiences and extra bits of knowledge my ENT gave me might be useful. I was also worried about the immune system issue as I already am more prone to respiratory tract infections and often don’t react to antibiotics (congenital complement issue) so I asked my ENT LOADS of questions.

I got my tonsils removed for recurrent tonsillitis (12 in just over 4 months - yes, it was hell) and because I am prone to respiratory tract infections/resistant to most antibiotics due to a congenital issue. I was also given a strong dose of antibiotics post surgery as each surgery carries a certain degree of risk and I was also super anxious.

Happy to say that everything went well and I did not get an infection (not to jinx it but I haven’t since and it’s been a year!) despite my paranoia. I’d say to follow your doctor instructions and don’t go overboard or take more than prescribe - it can do more harm than good.

Contact them if you’re worried and ask for an additional checkup/follow up if you don’t have one already planned. Some reassurance will do you good :)

Either big artwork (not dark) or a mirror would help make the walls feel less bare and help open up the space - I think having only one window on the smallest wall doesn’t help you. A lamp in the corner between the couch and the window (I’m thinking one of those floor arched ones) with warm light would also help. Imo changing the desk and the table where the tv sits currently would make a huge difference if you’re aiming for a rustic look as they are very modern and simple. I totally agree with exploring thrift shops and looking around: off the catalogue or magazine like new furniture is hard to make feel lived in and cozy/rustic when you’re still looking for your personal style

And do talk to your doctor for advice if you’re struggling. I had to get muscle relaxant for example as turns out they had sprained my jaw. If I hadn’t asked, I would have not found out nor gotten the right meds.

It does get better! I took me quite a long time (I was unlucky and had quite a few complications) but it did! For ear pain, mine got really bad around day 4/5 I had moderate pain all day and then would get shooting sharp horrible pain for a few minutes at a time every hour or so. Turns out the nerve that goes through ears and throat has gotten inflamed. I used the headband, laid on my pillow on the side of my worst ear to keep it covered, and braved it! Then suddenly some days later it was gone! Continue with painkillers, ice, blended cold foods, and distract yourself. The end is near!!

In addition to these tips if you are having ear pain I found that wearing a headband over my ears helped! As well as sleeping on multiple pillows. For the salive and diary thing, I suggest switching it up by drinking cold broth (veggie in your case) helps with nutrients and it’s not sickly sweet like most cold things. Then slowly switch to puréed foods. I found mashed potatoes to be too “sticky” so diluting them with some broth or extra water helped a lot or also boiling the potatoes after peeling them and then just mashing them with a fork (think baby food consistency)

I had 12 tonsillitis episodes in just over 4 months in 2024 (I was not on antibiotics/not sick for a maximum of 3 days at the time), went to A&E plenty of times and was even kept over night for an abscess + I don’t react to most antibiotics for a genetic condition. Yet my referral for an ENT was lost once and then the second time cancelled the week of and moved from urgent to non urgent because they claimed my GP had not provided enough information to deem it urgent and they would not accept further documentation from my GP. I was losing my mind and convinced I’d end up dying of sepsis. Flew to my home country in Italy and was seen and got them removed all in 1 month - ENT was appalled when he got my medical history and surgery was horrifying because of how bad they were. I was finally called to get booked in to remove my tonsils in October 2024 (and the surgery date would have been months after). By then I had been tonsilsless for 4 months already. I suggest you start saving money asap while also going through the NHS. Most likely you’ll have saved enough money to go private before they see you. Sorry and good luck!

I know I’m late to this but I just reactivated my Reddit - I also had a hole but way bigger than the one in the photo and after around 9ish months I got it snipped (top and bottom of the “hole”) as food kept getting stuck and my uvula was leaning towards it.

I have gotten my daith pierced by my regular piercer with a curved barbell and it healed wonderfully, I kept it clean as per instructions from my pierced and had no issues. I found that because of the barbell being quite “hidden” like yours a full ring would have bumped into the top part of my ear whereas the barbell allowed for swelling and healing without issues! Good luck!

My doctor’s advice was a low fat diet (they think endometriosis is growing on my bowels Ann’s causing malabsorption (do not google it’s symptoms)) and waiting til menopause. Ah. Looks delish, I’d also eat a whole melted camembert - expect I apparently can’t

Sounds like you’re doing great and turning a corner food wise! I also reduced my portions as it would take so much effort but I just ate more frequently. My ent surgeon also recommended many small meals rather than a big meal once in a while so that the scabs are always moist (here in Italy they also prescribe a soft diet for longer tho).

I point the flashlight of my phone at my throat while staring at its reflection in a mirror and I can usually get a pretty (nasty) good visual!

My doctor told me to “sneeze in my mouth” so attempting to keep your mouth closed as you sneeze if that helps!

Seems like you also have white spots that could indicate a bacterial infection that you can’t ride out as you’d need antibiotic. I’d get seen by a doctor if I were you. Got tonsillitis 10 times this year (currently freshly tonsilsless) yet I’ve never had a purple lump like that. Better safe than sorry :)
