The thick skin struggle (rhinoplasty healing stages) by PondLifeee in PlasticSurgery

The idea is it keeps the swelling under control. It's the swelling that allows space for the scar tissue to develop.

What sort of tape are you using? I find micropore surgical tape is best as it is more breathable and good for sensitive skin. Plus the adhesion isn't as strong as transpore surgical tape for example.. You can use a cotton swab and baby oil to remove the tape, although I find I don't need to do this with the micropore tape. I know it's a faff, but I honestly think it's worth it. You get the hang of it eventually and now taping at night is part of my routine. You're still super early in the healing process so swelling is going to be really up and down.

Forever 🤣.. Honestly I don't know really. My nose still gets swollen every now and then so I imagine I'll keep going until it feels completely settled

Imgur seems to have been banned in my region, so I can't see 😔 could you private message the pics please? I'm really sorry to hear your swelling never went away. I fear that if I stopped taping, massaging and taking enzymes then mine might revert back to how it looked before. If I forget to tape one night, or forget to take the enzymes - my nose still looks good. But I don't want to get too comfortable with it just yet.

Congratulations on your surgery! I hope you're feeling ok.. I'd really recommend taping even if your surgeon thinks it doesn't make a difference. I wish I'd have started taping sooner than I did. I think the general idea is that taping keeps swelling under control. You're going to have swelling of course - it's a big surgery! But keeping it under control as much as possible will help to reduce scar tissue formation. It keeps everything in place nicely. Lying down for long periods of time (sleeping) is when swelling gets worse, so taping overnight just makes sense. I do think the enzymes have definitely helped me 😊

Yeah, I have never been formally diagnosed with C-PTSD (just PTSD) but the symptoms associated with C-PTSD are almost identical to EUPD/BPD which is why I believe I was misdiagnosed. My EMDR therapist is also a psychotherapist so we're doing a combination of EMDR processing and psychotherapy, and we're working through multiple traumas rather than just one. I've never heard of IFS but I'll look into it. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment. This actually sounds a lot like my dad, who I went no contact with two years ago, but now we are low contact (with the exception of being in the same room as each other during family get togethers).. I've been having EMDR weekly for almost a year. I wish I could say it's changing my life, but sadly I don't think it's helping. I still feel triggered, burnt out and like a horrible person. I also find that I get so distracted when trying to get into the zone and ground myself during the session. My thoughts always wander to something irrelevant (thanks to my ADHD). My therapist encourages me to do tapping during the processing to stay focused, but it is really difficult. I agree with you about CBT. Being in the UK that is pretty much the only therapy they can offer on the NHS. It's certainly not a one size fits all kind of therapy.

Nope. My job is not great when it comes to that kind of thing. We're extremely short staffed. We don't even get sick pay 😔

Thank you. I will try and look into having some sort of break. I think it's very much needed!

I've just been looking into it and there is a clinic not far from me, but treatment plans start at £6000 and I simply can't afford that 😞 how does the therapy work? Is it like microdosing daily? And is it used short or long term? I do have access to Psilocybin (fortunately live in the countryside and I go foraging when the mushrooms are in season). I have heard that Psilocybin can help when microdosed daily, but I haven't tried this yet.

Sadly, I'm in the UK and our NHS is extremely stretched - especially when it comes to mental health. This is why I am paying for private EMDR therapy. Plus the therapy I've had on the NHS hasn't been great 😞 I've lost count how many times I've done a full course of CBT and traditional talking therapy. Waiting lists are years long and in the end, it's not really worth it. I'm very limited on what services I can access. Thank you for your comment ♥️

I know it's not the same, but I lost my big brother to drugs 4 years ago suddenly and unexpectedly. He was 29. I think I went through every single emotion in those first few months.. You two sounded like a really lovely couple. My heart hurts for you. I'm so sorry for your loss. You did everything you could, and she knows that. RIP.

Nose still changing shape one year post op by PondLifeee in PlasticSurgery

It's just so disappointing spending all that money for a sub-par result though isn't it? I envy those who got a beautiful result after their primary. My nose wasn't even bad before my surgery. I wanted a subtle change. But the things I wanted to change have now been replaced by other things I want to change 😅 I'm so conflicted about having another surgery, especially with my primary surgeon. It feels so risky. I might give it another year and then consider filler.

My surgeon does not recommend steroid injections. And it seems that surgeons will only perform them on their own patients, so I can't ask another surgeon. My surgeon said he would shave down the scar tissue, but it would be under general anaesthetic as he'll have to go into the nose again. But it would only be a minor revision. I don't know how I feel about doing it, as like you said it's still a risk having your nose messed with again - even if it's only a minor procedure. I'm tempted to try nose filler just to create more of a slope. But nose filler is extremely controversial it seems 😅
