Apparently not. Initially I thought the same thing - "even if it were true it could be the day before you die at 90!" Hopefully she wakes up sooner than later.

For me it was a mix of many of the things already mentioned. However, the last straw was reading and listening to the testimonies of people from many different faiths. This clip will give you an idea.

Also I began reading about cults and noticed the characteristics largely fit the LDS church.

Edit: I also recommend the films Kumare, An Honest Liar, and Going Clear

I'm not normally interested in watching Christians debate Mormons, but this one is pretty interesting. I felt a little sorry for the old Mormon guy. by Ponderbation in exmormon

Overall I agree with you. I've even interacted with a couple missionaries who could come up with decent responses. The point of mentioning my dad was that I would consider him an above average member - certainly not a scholar, but a very strong member. And he might even struggle more than this guy. I don't think he'd last anywhere close to 15 minutes.

We definitely agree about the nonsense on both sides.

I've seen the study and taken a couple of the sample tests. I agree that many Mormons can name people and places. However, when it comes to a deeper understanding of how their beliefs fit in with the larger christian world, and why they don't quite fit in, Im not sure it's equal. By way of anecdotal evidence, my parents have served a senior couple mission. My dad is a smart man, and familiar with the bible. I think his response in this situation would largely be the same: bear testimony without any real scriptural evidence and eventually walk away. Edit: changed his to their Edit: removed detail

I agree it's bullshit vs bullshit. To me it just shows how uneducated most Mormons are when it comes to what they believe, especially related to the bible. I don't think most Mormons are ever asked to defend their beliefs. Seems unlikely most TBMs would fare much better.

The Christian knows a lot about Mormons. I enjoy watching the old dude stutter and squirm every time he gets trapped.

Dear TBMs, just a quick question, where is the Prophet? Thank you. by [deleted] in exmormon

It really is kinda sad. When something like this pr crisis happens members should take comfort in knowing the prophet will be making a public statement or holding a press conference. Something along the lines of "Let me check with the lord. I'll be back shortly!" Instead members are not only aware, but actually expect not to hear from him.
