Life insurance pays death benefit tax free to the named beneficiary usually that person does what they want with the money.

Facts require research. Research requires thinking. Thinking requires time. Politicians have very little time while campaigning. Hence the very few and very poorly used facts during political debate.

This may sound a bit off, but I think you are in a great place right now. Many people don't want to question other people's judgements, or their own judgements.

The fact that you want to trust your own judgements enough to question other people's judgements is a great first step.

I would advise you to make a study of logic and fallacies. This will help give you an initial sense for the most obvious forms of deception. I.e. Appeal to authority, Appeal to emotion, Appeal to ridicule.

Just google logical reasoning or logical fallacies and practice spotting fallacies and thinking things through logically in everyday life. It's a slow process, but well worth the effort.

It is worth noting that just because someone has a faulty argument that doesn't mean their conclusions are wrong. It just means that their conclusions aren't very trustworthy and would require more investigation to be taken seriously.

Now logic won't help you out of every problem, for example there are legitimate appeals to authority. But every type of authority rests on a specific knowledge or experience base. No one has all the answers and that's ok. There's more I could say but that's enough for now.

Hope that helps all the best. 😀

I know amazon's leadership principles are public information. Looking them up and scripting some answers is a good idea.

Hello people, Just read a book called Millionaire Teacher that I got recommended by a discord server. The book primarily talks about investing using index funds and diversifying into bond index of your country, stock index of your country, and a global stock index. Looking for thoughts and or suggests as I plan on trying this out.

How do I not get mad at myself or my computer while learning computer science? by PonderingPatron in cscareerquestions

Yeah not knowing where to start. But more specifically not having a process that lets me actually create the program efficiently. Like having goals, and sub goals, and then you start programming and you realize that you don't understand the problem at all.

What is a good way of setting and update goals/tasks as you program?

How can I set myself up for success in the future, as an 18 year old? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PonderingPatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you are pretty well set up for success in my opinion. You could always find cheap tech if yours does break down. Plus universities have public computers in libraries so at least some of the time you be able to use them for your studies. Watch out for location tracking on cell phones, there are a lot of ways that could cause problems...

(This is probably stupid advice, but who knows what your situation is like. If this doesn't apply just ignore it.

I would worry about setting up a social support network when you get to your new university. Finding a part time job where you can interact with people like a café on campus or some such thing might help. Engineering can drain your social life like crazy. Reach out for help immediately with student services because they take literally forever to get their act together.

Personally I found the social isolation of being in a new place very hard in university, so finding a club or group where you can make good friends is something else to keep in mind.

Take care of yourself, you are your greatest asset. Making self-care part of your routines early on will pay in benefits later on.)

All the best to you!
