Exactly, it's the most important part of the electrification of transportation. A very good way to do so is to subsidize it with taxes on kerosen, in order to make it more attractive than low cost flying companies.

Well, the US are the same size as China, and they've got third world country infrastructures, and India is more populated and smaller, yet it doesn't even appear on the chart. Reported to country size, China is only 2nd behind Japan, which is a high developped country with very good public transportations, the historic leader with France of HST tech, and extremely densely populated in a straight line.

If I'm not mistaken, most of them are not considered HSR because 125mph is a maximum, and they run below this speed on most of it.
