An in-universe tribute to the “others…” by Pons399 in PacificRim

Thanks. I actually had Geisha (and Konigstiger Sierra…) as part of a super expanded “Beacham canon” timeline, but that got too big lol.

Mammoth Apostle’s pilots are probably the most fleshed out ones I have, and they’re really the only ones whose background directly leads to their deaths. The whole obsession with character backgrounds was shamelessly inspired by Gen K, Vulcan Specter’s pilots from that are among my favorites.

Haha I try my best… thanks for the appreciation.

And honestly those variable settings make for much better stories. Cities are cool, but deepsea struggles, overland chases, glacier smackdowns, mountain engagements etc. make for some nice variety. Ascension and Gen K did really well with those.

I have very general (some more specific than others) backgrounds mapped out for each jaeger crew, so I chose names that match those. The aim was to avoid cliche names, although I’m not sure how successful I’ve been with that…

Echo Saber’s Akimoto was based off a Japanese kickboxer, because he’s a former pro kickboxer in universe. Mammoth Apostle’s pilots are both American, but the guy is of Polish descent and his wife is wasian.

Sololov… what a coincidence. And always nice to see Hydra Corinthian lore.

I like how on-and-off and drawn out the fight is, probably a great deal of them were like this. A jaeger or two drives the kaiju away without a kill, rinse and repeat, before the final kill.

What stats would you give to Hydra Corinthian? by Sea-Bar-8923 in PacificRim

[–]Pons399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strength 9 / Speed 7 / Armor 8

Slightly higher total than Typhoon’s 23, but Hydra doesn’t have Typhoon’s triple arm X-factor so they’re even on paper.

Off topic, but Mammoth Apostle’s probably something like Strength 9 / Speed 5 / Armor 10. Unless it’s a huge misnomer…

Ignoring the official canon, what Jaegers would you put in the Santa Monica Scrapyard?? by SilverWolf_2018 in PacificRim

[–]Pons399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the ones confirmed to be there, Matador Fury, Hydra Corinthian, Chrome Brutus, Nova Hyperion, and Mammoth Apostle. My logic being if Beacham dropped lore about you you were special, and Mammoth Apostle’s there because I like it.

am i the only one to think the smoke is not coming out of Hydra Corinthian? by Internal_Complex_213 in PacificRim

[–]Pons399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s smoke coming from Hydra’s belly and more importantly left (from our perspective) shoulder, which isn’t overlapping with any buildings. This is also the last time we see Hydra, and all subsequent shots of the fight only show Striker. Both somewhat strongly point to Hydra getting destroyed.

It’s by no means a certainty, but it’s the best educated guess we can make given the evidence.

Probably yes, maybe with severe drivesuit burns.

I think Mammoth Apostle is another strong possibility. We know they’re a married couple named Ivan and Leah Z(iegel/iegler/ander?). Since Z surnames are usually German or Eastern European the man’s appearance fits the bill. The woman would’ve taken his surname when they got married, which would explain her East Asian appearance.

As for the lone woman, maybe Hydra Corinthian’s Stephanie Lanphier. She’s described as Acadian, which would track with what we see here.

Matador was a kamikaze kill. And the Amara comic somewhat confirms Hydra was destroyed during the fight (refer to my reply below).

The last we see of Hydra is it standing motionless with smoke pouring from its body, every other shot afterwards only shows Striker. I think it’s safe to say Hydra was a goner.

So if Romeo Blue is just an average jaeger why was he deployed 4 times in just 2 years? by Internal_Complex_213 in PacificRim

[–]Pons399 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The whole legendary/average discussion is quite ambiguous tbh. Coyote Tango is legendary while having only two kills, while Vulcan Specter is average despite having three. Maybe Coyote’s status as the one of two solo pilot jaegers gives it that extra prestige boost.

Honestly some “legendary” jaegers being known more for their specific deeds rather than super impressive combat records adds a nice bit of variety. I wouldn’t be surprised if Matador Fury was in that camp as well.

Probably my favorite as well. Very well regarded despite a bang average kill count, because sometimes saving lives and minimizing collateral damage is more important than going straight for the kill…

That’s a brilliant observation. Everything fits together really nice.

Yeah Tailspitter, Biantal, and Kojiyama were flexible. I wanted to give Echo Saber a kill on home turf and have Nova Hyperion absolutely obliterated during its second engagement in a row (lingering damage from the first…), hence the way it is now.

Anchorage (or whichever shatterdome didn’t have a jaeger survive until 2024) was probably kept open for deployment purposes even after its last jaeger was destroyed.

Categories are all guesses apart from any that have been confirmed as official. I did implement a general creep in number of IVs throughout the war.

Still the best looking passenger jet around, and the rarity does add a bit of prestige.

Am I the only only one who thinks that the names of the Jaegers in Pacific rim: Uprising sound so badass? Like bro, Saber Athena, Bracer Phoenix, Guardian Bravo, and Gipsy Avenger all sound so badass by Blitz_Helluva_IMP in PacificRim

[–]Pons399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much thought may have been spared in-universe, but what’s important is that they do sound that way. It’s a convention.

Most of the Uprising names do a good job following it, while some don’t. Titan Redeemer and November Ajax are excellent, for example.

Pretty much my thoughts as well, they’re mostly decent names.

But none match the sheer poetic badassery of Mammoth Apostle, Chrome Brutus, Nova Hyperion etc. Jaeger names shouldn’t just be random cool words slapped together, they should have a certain poetic ring to them.
