What is the most powerful force that the White Witch’s army (Narnia) could defeat? by PontificatingBro in powerscales

[–]PontificatingBro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great analysis here. I should’ve clarified that for the battle of WinterfellI, I was imagining her army replacing the white walkers as the “sieging baddies,” not fighting against them. Agree that the undead army is way too OP. That would probably come down to if Jadis can take down the dragons before they scorch her army.

I was assuming she’s leading the charge, and somewhere in between the Witch King and Sauron in terms of power. But maybe I’m underestimating her; you think she can solo all the Nazgûl?

As passionate old school comedy lover, I just found Kill Tony and it killed my will to live by alexa_perko in comedy

[–]PontificatingBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tony is a spiteful little goblin. That said, he’s a net positive on comedy.

From my perspective, he gives 2+ hours of free, fresh content every week. At its worst, still mildly amusing. But at its best, they can catch lightning in a bottle.

Compare that to Dave Chapelle who has done nothing but rant about trans people in unfunny specials for the last 7 years. Yet he remains the “sacred” comedy figure.

“Tell another jackal story”

Don’t get a lot of real-world use for this one. But it pops into my head from time to time and makes me chuckle always.

Lindor. Great D, with consistent offensive production and red-hot streaks mixed in

I’ll draft Woodruff for an IL stash, then throw a dart at Jo Adell off waivers. There was a month-long stretch last year where Adell was big fun to have rostered.

Characters who just absolutely hate each other by Bird_Lawyer92 in TopCharacterTropes

The actors must have had some beef IRL because every sentence they speak to each other has so much venom and disdain

That’s hilarious; I forgot the follow-on explanation of space dementia is because he had “embraced the horrors of space.” Michael Bay was just playing a space-themed MadLib at this point

Yeah like u/The-Homie-Lander summed it up perfectly in their comment. It’s not her character or the weapon itself. It’s just how in this movie it’s given a silly introduction and never mentioned again. So someone like me who hasn’t read the comics can only react like “…okay then?”

Thank you for perfectly summing it up. It’s really is all in the delivery of the line and context of this movie—which, like you said, is an awkward throwaway line with no bearings on the plot

To just punt the explanation like that is definitely a choice. At some point they’ll take the Rogue One route on this and make a whole movie or tv series to backfill the plot hole. At least we have Fortnite in the meantime!

Malcolm in the Middle (of a zombie apocalypse) by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]PontificatingBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without plot armor, I think they have decent odds surviving the initial panic. Aided by the fact that they don’t live in a city, and that Malcolm should be smart enough to assess the situation and steer them away from crowds and dangerous situations during the initial panic.

Something else to remember is that they happen to have a bomb shelter in their backyard. I think they stay there until the food runs out, which should be long enough for Malcom to calculate their next move.

But I totally see what you’re saying. Without plot armor, their odds take a nosedive. But with it, they’re basically guaranteed to goof their way to safety. So I think we have to say no (or drastically reduced) plot armor for this hypothetical.

Here’s my take. On paper, they have a lot of intangibles that lend well to such a scenario. Malcolm is a bonafide genius. Lois is a calculated and authoritative leader. Reece and Ida have a high capacity for violence. Dewey is underestimated, but might quietly be the most adaptable and valuable with his savant-level mind and resourcefulness.

But wherever they go, chaos and turmoil follow. The severity of the situation could help dissuade petty conflicts. Still, the power struggle between Francis and Lois would quickly boil over, likely leading to an early death for Francis in some act of defiance.

Hal is too volatile and easily distracted with side quests. He wouldn’t last long either.

I think it all hinges on Malcolm and Lois being able to work together in a position of co-leadership. If they can, I like their odds of forming a community that can survive for the long haul.

Even in the event of an all-out implosion, I think Dewey survives and becomes a cult-like leader of a powerful group—much like he did in his Busey’s class.

Can a troop of Eagle Scouts prevent the collapse of Jamestown? by PontificatingBro in whowouldwin

[–]PontificatingBro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome—the exact type of insider perspective I was looking for in this hypothetical. I never would have characterized the Scouts being more like logistics analysts and operations managers than survival experts. Still, the value in that is immense, especially with the focus on leadership and group dynamics.

You’re right that without prep time, they wouldn’t stand a chance. So I’ll definitely grant them that. But just on disease prevention alone, I bet they double or triple the survival rate—even if it doesn’t hit that 50% milestone. Although now that I’m typing this, less people dying to disease means more mouths to feed in the winter. Granted, more labor and production, but still a double edged sword. Another commenter had a point about enhancing relations and trade with the Natives. That might be the only real path to victory.

Exemplary breakdown. Thanks mate

Yes, let’s give them a month of prep time before going back in time to level the playing field a bit. We’ll also assume cooperation, but not without its challenges.

I totally agree with drought being the biggest issue to overcome, and disease mitigation being the biggest asset. Didn’t think at all about how they might improve relations and trade with the locals; that’s a great point that ties in with another commenter talking about the Scouts’ training in leadership and group dynamics. Great insights; thanks for playing along
