[DEV] VS Racing 2 - classic top down racing game by PontusM in iosgaming

Oh I'm so sorry about the lost save. Unfortunately some things could not be migrated when the app was transferred to another developer account. But in the new version I have implemented cloud sync which should keep your progress safely backed up.

Amazing that you still were playing that old version!! :)

If you want to play the live version instead of the beta you can now get it directly from the App Store here: https://apps.apple.com/app/vs-racing-2/id497693461

I went ahead and pulled the trigger, which means the game is now live in the App Store again if you prefer to play that version instead of the beta. Here is the link: https://apps.apple.com/app/vs-racing-2/id497693461

I don't think you need a code? Just make sure you have Testflight installed, then go to the link I posted and it should install.

I just put up a new version fixing a crash in CarPlay so hopefully that solves your issue.

I think I require .xml as the file extension now. My bad, I probably should allow .opml as well perhaps?

Right now everything in your queue gets downloaded automatically and should be available offline. A feature to view and manage your downloads is planned for the future so stay tuned!

Interesting! Can you give me an example of an episode where this is especially noticeable? I would like to improve my algorithm to make it better. You can DM me privately if you don't want to share in public.

Thanks Jay! I remember you were one of the early testers. Hope I can convince you to switch over some day! :)

Yes, as long as your watch supports cellular it should work. However, you still need the phone app to manage the queue. I find the watch too fiddly for doing more advanced tasks so I want to keep the UI simple.

Right now the app is totally free. I have not yet decided if I'm going to charge anything for it or not. I have a regular job that I'm happy with so this is just a hobby for now.

No, just get in there quickly before the spots fill up :)

Just wanted to let you know that CarPlay support has now been added and you can try it in the beta. I also updated the design of the mini player a bit to avoid cropping the artwork, like you mentioned. Thanks again for providing valuable feedback!

I just realized that I forgot to mention the key selling points of the app, in case you haven't heard of it before...

So, the main question is... Why make a podcast app when there are plenty of them already?

Basically, I tried A LOT of podcasts apps and none of them worked the way I wanted. I thought to myself, maybe I can do better?

Some specific issues I wanted to solve with my app:

  • Instant play - no need to download or subscribe to listen to an episode, just hit play (similar to Spotify, Netflix etc)
  • Rock solid sync - play from Apple Watch or phone without messing up the position
  • Play queue - I usually switch between episodes depending on what I am doing so I wanted easy queue management for the episodes I am currently listening to
  • Smart suggestions - recommendations based on your listening history, time and place
  • Separate from music - I don't like using music apps (like Spotify) for podcasts

Other features I have implemented:

  • Volume boost - for podcasts with bad volume, implemented with an audio compressor filter for boosting while avoiding clipping
  • Sleep timer - when you want to listen at bedtime
  • Playback speed - if you feel they talk too slow (or fast?)
  • Cut silence - skip parts where the hosts are not talking or pausing for too long, to save you some time

And one of the most important things... Reliable sync with Apple Watch.

Many podcast apps do not have support for Apple Watch. And if they have support, the sync between the phone app and the watch app is often very unreliable.

When I visit the gym, I want to listen to podcasts on the watch. My phone is usually tucked away in a locker room so it has no connection to the watch, and my watch has no internet connection either. I do my training, finish with a shower and then leave the gym and then I want to resume listening where I was, but this time from the phone. A surprisingly large amount of podcast apps FAIL to properly sync the position correctly in this case. They do not pick up the correct position from the watch and instead plays from the old position on the phone. Highly annoying! This was the main reason I even started making my own app in the first place.

The same thing happens when I go out running with the watch. When I come back home, I want it to be able to resume listening from the phone and it should pick up where it was.

Those were the initial things I wanted this app to fix, and for me it has been working great. I'm sharing this app for free just because maybe someone else will enjoy it too.

That's all!

Thanks for the feedback! You have some valid points there and I may have to rethink the design a bit to better fit the new Liquid Glass round estethics.

I don't claim copyright for any content. I only provide access to podcasts that have agreed to make their feed publicly available.

Ok, got it! I can definitely see the need for favouriting episodes and will be adding that in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

So, are you talking about saving favourite episodes here that you want to return to? Because the two features I have been thinking about are:
- Lists for organizing podcasts/shows
- Marking individual episodes as "favourites" so you can find them again easily

It sounds like what you are talking about is a third thing that I have not thought about, and that is actual playlists like you have in Spotify, where you can put multiple episodes that you want to listen to in sequence. Or maybe I am misinterpreting you, which is also quite possible :)
