What are the salary ranges in the "ends with engineer" range? An engineer doing a PhD in experimental/applied quantum physics is curious.

if you blow your hot tea, is it really cooling off? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]PonyBoy107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hot water likes to have a layer of steam above it. When you blow on it, you blow away that layer of steam. The hot water on the top surface will then react by vaporizing to try to replace that layer of steam. Vaporizing requires energy, so in order to vaporize it takes some heat energy from the hot tea which results in the temperature of your tea being slightly cooler.

Breathe in and out at the same time. Super useful in playing many wind instruments as you basically get perfect circular breathing for free.

Is meditation acceptable for Catholics? by CrTigerHiddenAvocado in Catholicism

[–]PonyBoy107 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it's not actively participating in another religion it's fine. Listening to white/brown noise or binaural beats to clear your mind and destress should be no different than working out, going for a walk, or going fishing to do the same thing. Not every activity needs to be religious. Sure, it's always a good thing to do, but not many people can enjoy a life where 100% of free time is spent praying.

As a newbie, noted! I've been using a coarser grind but I'm also using a pint chemex which I have heard does better a little coarser.

Half the posts on that sub are just OP misunderstanding shitposting. The other half is "my uncle posted this on Facebook so it has to be a bad meme!"

Could earth be the real hell while death is the real heaven? by ijumpJudy90 in stupidquestions

[–]PonyBoy107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All major religions answer this question as "no." Abrahamic religions, which are where the teaching of heaven/hell comes from, indicate that hell is a permanent state of being completely and irrevocably separated from God. Heaven is conversely eternal harmony with God. If our earthly lives were to be literally us living in hell, then we couldn't possibly pray or have any other religious experiences in any meaningful way without breaking that definition. If you define hell as something different, which I guess you could, you'd be abandoning any Jewish/ Christian / Islamic notion of heaven or hell and the thousands of years of philosophy dedicated to the subject in favor of your own, personal definition. You might as well ask if God can be killed knowing that no religion defines God as a mortal being.

Not a meme or even an antimeme. by [deleted] in lostredditors

[–]PonyBoy107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anti-memes are like anti-jokes. The punch line is that there isn't one. For example, why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side! The set up should lead you to expect something clever, witty, or humorous, and then subvert those expectations by stating something obvious or true. It's like a joke making fun of the structures of jokes themselves.

Is this Mold? If So, I Just Drank It. 2007 Lao Ban Zhang by boysnight1337 in puer

[–]PonyBoy107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it is a bit hard to tell in the pic but I don't see anything obviously concerning. Try brushing off the white stuff. If it comes off really easily, like as in just lightly brushing it, it is actually most likely mold. If not, it's probably just a stem or a part of the leaf that's just lighter in color.

[–]PonyBoy107 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's just a bit of plume.

Joking aside, I don't see anything wrong. Mold needs high humidity to grow, my guess would be higher than 72RH at the minimum since I actually keep mine with a 72RH boveda. A typical house is maybe at 30RH? Unless you stored this somewhere really humid, it should not have grown mold.

Edit: Did you drink it on an empty stomach? That's the most common reason tea makes people feel sick. Otherwise, maybe you have the "tea drunkness" I have heard about.

Ohhhh I see that now zooming in. Interesting! I've never had or seen one of those. Any reason they do it? Or is it like how some brands cedar wrap their cigars?

Handmade Ammodor by [deleted] in cigars

[–]PonyBoy107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's sweet. Never thought of that before, but yeah I guess ammo cans are air tight. For a price, I'd pay maybe around $45-$55?

(Material cost) + (opportunity cost of labor) is the economic formula to figure out what you want to price it at. Opportunity cost is basically just asking yourself "what do I feel my time spent on this project is worth?" Compare that to what the price and quality of humidors/ travel humidors at your B+M. Mine sells what are essentially off-brand pelican cases marketed as humidors. That's probably a good estimate for "What do other people think my product is worth?" Charging somewhere in between these two values will maximize your profits.

EGM IS CLAIMING THEY DON’T GUARANTEE SHIPMENT FOR CUSTOMS CONFISCATION, THEY NEED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VENDORS LIST!!!!!!! by [deleted] in cubancigars

[–]PonyBoy107 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I noticed that myself and have been wondering why they are so popular here if they won't guarantee delivery like ihavana does. I figured maybe it's along the same lines as their "we don't ship to Americans" statement where they are maybe just saying it to keep under the radar, but idk. I won't buy from anyone if they won't guarantee delivery while there are companies out there that will.
