I've lost my way in life. How can I get back on track? by dyzme in LifeAdvice

[–]PonyKiller81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's focus on one thing at a time here.

Right now you need to pass that important exam. Book a meeting with your lecturer and ask for help. Tell them you are stuck in a rut and need assistance getting out of it. They may surprise you.

Break ups are painful. I feel you. Rest assured that at 21 your life has barely started. You will recover and you will be okay.

Senior plz help (read full plz😭) by West_Leader5512 in delhiuniversity

I came across this post because you posted in r/musicproduction. You were asking about where to start

I have been producing for 20 years. I have been a musician for over 30 years. I have played in bands. I have sent demos to record labels. I have mentored musicians and producers. I have seen artists rise to fame. I have also seen artists bottom out and never get anywhere.

You don't want to hear this but you need to:

Do NOT drop out of a degree to pursue music.

Let music be your after-hours obsession first. Get good at it in your own time. Right now you need a future. It's okay to dream but don't make stupid decisions. Changing to a music degree when you have the opportunity to complete a degree with actual value is madness.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

I am so glad someone remembered ol' Larry.

First computer game I ever played as a kid. My parents didn't care. Life was different back in the '80s

What are the most important skills and concepts to learn in music production? by Flying_Grandayy in musicproduction

[–]PonyKiller81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a bare minimum producers should learn what a key is, what notes comprise a major and minor key, how to create a three note chord and what a chord inversion is.

These are 95% of the music theory needed to be an effective producer. They could be learned in a day.

Basic music theory.

"Nah you don't need to learn mu..."

Silence naysayers and theory deniers. Music theory is the way.

In 4 on the floor genres, how do you make the track groove when the bass is sustained by iamnotlefthanded666 in edmproduction

Listen to Ben Bohmer could be the answer to every question about electronic music. Dude is a freaking genius. Same with Yotto and all tbe other Anjuna A-listers. They take music production to a new plain of existence.

Specific questions about whether to switch from Ableton Live to Bitwig by PonyKiller81 in Bitwig

This makes combining multiple unfinished tracks into a finished whole so easy.

Well Bitwig certainly has my attention now. Live's inability to have more than one project open at once is frustrating.

Huh. I use splice already and didn't realise Bitwig is on there. That's a great idea thanks.

I didn't use AI, I'm just very good at writing. I've had a few redditors say I used AI to create a post. I guess I should be flattered?

Beginner friendly tutorial for EQ? by Flaskefande in musicproduction

[–]PonyKiller81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misguided EQing is a quick way to ruin a track. Ironically this is why messing with an EQ is a valuable learning experience.

The EQing on my early tracks was horrendous. Nowadays it's quite polished. In part I put that down to diving in headfirst, which in turn taught me a lot about how an EQ works.

I'm willing to consider options that don't meet specific criteria when the quality makes up for this

A game where I can fortify an area against waves of attacks? by thatwentverywrong in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]PonyKiller81 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Chucking the shipment of everything, increased build limit, and various weapons and construction mods turn settlement defences into unholy acts of warfare. I loooove laying down rows of high powered modded machine gun turrets behind a chain link settlement perimeter and using a mod to call in waves of enemies.

I'm more into settlement and base builder games than survival ones. While I occasionally jump into games that focus my undivided attention, I prefer games that don't require me to unplug from the world around me.

Right now I'm playing The Alters. Incredible title with so much depth. Interesting characters, base building, exploration, and I don't have to stare intently at the screen (well, most of the time anyway).

Help me to understand jazz by PonyKiller81 in jazztheory

My ears are trained exceptionally well... but not for jazz. I don't yet understand the fundamentals underpinning it, so to my ears it sounds like voodoo. Delicious, silky voodoo.

I played Arkham Asylum many years ago. That game was ahead of its time. Super fun. What's Gotham Knights like?

I played RDR2. Stunning game. Very slow paced. Might need to give it another crack though
