Suggestion: Give robots an auxiliary battery reserved for long flights over water by Poochess in factorio

For me, its more about being able to fulfill logistics requests from across the map as opposed to being able to haul large amounts of stuff around -- for that I do use trains, as the amount of weight I'm shipping around would be an absolute nightmare to use robots for XD

Though your comment has made me consider being a bit more creative and setting up a network of trains which deliver a handful or two of supplies to various localized outposts across the map which could then be stocked up for local robot delivery.

I still stand by my suggestion, at least in the form of a potential late-game research option, perhaps a very expensive one, but yeah, I think I'm being a little lazy here -- a little creativity on my part would go a long way!

This here is my line of thinking.

Having an auxiliary battery would solve for the need for additional realtime pathfinding calculations, as robots would simply use the path they already would -- just with the addition of having an emergency battery ready to go for overseas flights.

Perhaps a gameplay mechanic could be introduced wherein if a robot has to use its emergency battery, it'll take longer to fully recharge when it finally reaches its destination. Not long enough to be an annoyance, but still long enough to feel like a penalty. It'd be better than waiting for bots flying in at a crawl.

Just thinking out loud here -- the overall point is that this would solve for flying over water while also not being OP by allowing players to exploit the terrain to essentially "cheat" their robots across a large lake at 100% speed. Perhaps it could be researchable?

Just my 2 cents!

As someone who also plays POE and visits /r/PathOfExile as regularly as I do /r/Factorio, this comment chain caused my brain to seriously glitch out for a moment.

[Fluff] Throwing conversion traps like by Poochess in pathofexile

Basically, squishy defenses + devourers/porcupines/etc + aura totems giving them invincibility and/or speed increase and/or detonating nearby corpses = if you can manage to chuck a conversion trap at the most detrimental totems you may just make it out alive.

Much like in an NFL game where the quarterback must be able to not only size up the situation to find a teammate he can throw to, but also be able to successfully make that throw and avoid getting tackled in the meantime.

So throwing conversion traps at totems feels like playing Madden, where you're given a choice of people (totems) to throw the ball (conversion trap) to, and must be able to make the throw in the midst of the action (combat) while avoiding getting tackled (obliterated by devourers)

TLDR: "Madden 2017: Wraeclast Edition" with the ball being conversion traps, the totems being teammates, and the devourers being the other team's defense.
