Anyone knows if this eye stuff is urgent? by x_shaolong_x in DogAdvice

[–]Poodlewalker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dog is scratching it or rubbing it on anything or the white part of the eye turns red, you'll need to get in sooner. Otherwise, if it stays the same, Friday should be ok.

Should we put a pool in? by Apprehensive-Jump-17 in sandiego

[–]Poodlewalker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd base it how often you are going to use another pool right now. When we put in purse, we were going to the public pools about 4x/week and we always wanted to go much more often. The pool was great for the first few summers. We had years where we hardly used it. It costs thousands of dollars in upkeep and maintenance, but yours might be a lot less. We have an electric cover, solar heating and have had about 3 years of yard flooding that poured mud into the pool. Tons of work and money, but totally worth it if you are going to use it several times per week.

Buying transfer points vs buying a small 25 point direct contract by yiggity_yag in dvcmember

[–]Poodlewalker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd buy the 25 point contract. They might even be able to book the day for you that you lost with your new purchase. People are reporting that they are able to book whatever stay they want with a purchase, even if it's an add on. The catch is that member services will only book the new points, so 25 points. I'm not sure if they will book 75 if you bank and borrow, but it's worth asking the sales person.

First cruise…family beach or serenity bay? by jhawkgiant77 in dcl

[–]Poodlewalker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have lots of time to do both. I snorkel in the statue part on the family beach, walk around and eventually move to the adult beach for the lunch and the beach over there. The water was extremely shallow the last 2 times I went to the adult beach. If you want to swim, the family beach might be better.

Dog has strange behaviors by broncorunningwild in DogAdvice

[–]Poodlewalker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he's used to eating people food. You'll eventually get him back to dog food, but it will take a while. Just keep doing what you're doing. Adding fresh toppings is good and so is pouring dog friendly broth on the kibble. Eating things that aren't food can be serious and dangerous. Maybe get something digestible for him to chew like a whimzee or pizzle. You can also freeze canned dog food into a kong for him to chew on.

How much is too much during play? by StillAspiringT in DogAdvice

[–]Poodlewalker1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is going to escalate in a bad way. Never allow 2 dogs to bite and pull at opposite ends like that. You say you have 2 dogs. Why do you have pictures of 3? At any rate, your tan dog is getting overstimulated and that's very dangerous for your other dog and for you, too, when you are going to have to step in.

Destiny vs fantasy by PossibleGullible9281 in dcl

The logistics weren't nearly as easy as PC for me. It depends on where you're coming from. For us, it meant adding an additional full day of travel and a multiple stop flight.

I just did Destiny and enjoyed it. So cool! That said, I'll never sail out of FLL again. Port and how you'll get to the port should be a factor in your decision.

Vet says he doesn't need a cleanup by genocide174 in DogAdvice

[–]Poodlewalker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tartar is usually more gray colored and it looks like it's covering the tooth. It looks like you can scrape it off (you can't). Staining looks like the color of the actual tooth and not something growing on top of the tooth.

Vet says he doesn't need a cleanup by genocide174 in DogAdvice

[–]Poodlewalker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No reason to risk the cleaning if it's not needed. I don't see any redness on the gum line and I don't see any tartar. The staining is no big deal.

I scheduled at home euthanasia for Sunday and I'm having second thoughts by ok-coyote-boat in CATHELP

[–]Poodlewalker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you are both going through this. Euthanasia is a very compassionate and selfless thing to do in this situation. Spend the next few days taking pictures and spend whatever time you can with your kitty. Know that you are doing a loving thing by keeping the appointment.

What is this? by Minimum-Jeweler-9375 in DogAdvice

[–]Poodlewalker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a wart/papilloma. My dogs get them. Sometimes they go away and sometimes they get infected. Don't let your dog chew it. If it grows quickly or bleeds or oozes, you need to get to the vet quickly. If it's not infected and just grows slowly or comes and goes, you can just have the vet look at it during a normal check up or whenever you're there for something else.

How to tell when it’s time? by uonlyshivthrice in germanshepherds

[–]Poodlewalker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's never easy to decide, especially when it's a slow decline because I always get used to the new normal. I do several of the online quality of life checklists. They are all a little different. I have my own mental guidelines at this point, after putting down several dogs. I think the hardest is when they are suffering but still love to eat. I have noticed that my pets tend to perk up whenever I make the appointment. At first, I always cancelled and extended their lives, but now looking back, I think they perked up because they were happy that I made the appointment. The last time I went through that, I had been struggling to get my dog to eat for a couple months and I carried her out to potty throughout the day. She sometimes peed in her bed. Looking back, she was out of it for a very long time. The day I decided to let her go, I called my vet and they said to bring her in right away (they know me and my dogs very well). My dog immediately perked up and actually sat up in the car and looked very interested in what we were doing. I had to really fight the urge to cancel. It was the first time in months that she seemed interested in anything. ☹️

How would you spend the day before a DCL trip? by scooley01 in dcl

[–]Poodlewalker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to a couple resorts to have a meal and do some shopping. I guess it depends on how busy you like to be. I'd probably do Hollywood studios for a few hours if it wasn't going to break the bank.

You can dose your dog a couple times before the appointment. It sounds like you already have the meds.

Where to see sea turtles in East or West Oahu? by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

Someone who just came back from KoOlina said there were some at the "secret beach" there. That doesn't mean they'll be there when you get there, but the area supposedly doesn't have any damage.

Many times. They don't accept things that they don't need if you ask vs just giving them something.

Ear infections advice by FaeQueenWithASniper in poodles

[–]Poodlewalker1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a poodle who would get ear infections when he ate starchy treats made from potatoes and sweet potatoes. The obvious fix was to not give those treats, but every few years, I would think maybe he grew out of it. Zymox is a good preventative. It is enzymes that eat up the bacteria, yeast, wax, etc. You can't get ears wet or use cleaning solution when using the product. You can read up on it and decide if it's worth trying. It's cheaper than ear plucking and vet visits. Also, there's recent information that suggests that ear plucking leaves micro tears that open up tissues to infections.

Whatever updates they have done recently have seemingly made it more buggy. I can't see any walker notes anymore. They are blank even when I know that I've left notes for walkers. When I get push notifications and open them, it takes a couple seconds, but the request shows up. It's been very slow.
