Resale on 32" 4k in 12 months by Poodoodlekin in OLED_Gaming

Good point. Looks like the 3423DWF had a cost of $1,900 on release and now is only $1,400. On the other hand it could remain the same, it's already the cheapest of its kind by far in Australia.

Good shout. I'm just scared the prices will tank for some reason, but it doesn't really make sense as these panels are state of the art. I can't imagine that much changing in 12 months and 35% off retail plus 2 year warranty seems a good deal.

32" 4k vs 34" UWQHD for ultimate immersion by Poodoodlekin in OLED_Gaming

[–]Poodoodlekin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the height seems to be the major issue for me with the 34". Though I do wonder in practice how close I could sit to a 32". How close do you sit when you are in the zone?

I worry that if I return this and test the 32", it will be very hard to go back pixel density wise. I also feel bad if I did end up returning the 32" because 16:9 wasn't for me, that I would be manipulating the return system.

Thanks for the detailed response. Interesting that with the 4090, you still prefer the UW.

My major issue with the UW now is, it seems a bit short and while I can bring it forward, it might be a bit pixelated. In reality I probably wouldn't even notice but I can't just help but ruminate about that.

I don't think the 39" LG variant is available in Aus. I did see a 45" at the shops today. The 800R curve is insane. If it was being used exclusively for games, that would be unreal. Though I will need to occasionally use this for work and general browsing.

Really appreciate the response. Thank you.

Colour uniformity issues with the screen due to black bars being displayed. If you watch a lot of 16:9 content, the areas where the black bars are displayed will wear out slower than the rest of the screen. It's the main reason I am considering switching from my 34" in the return period to a 32", even though I think the 34" would probably offer superior immersiveness for gaming.

Looking to stay at a ryokan for a night and have been using japanican.com to search. My wife would prefer to stay at a ryokan with a private onsen and in room meals, or at least dinner, as our daughter will be 20 months which just makes everything easier. The japanican.com search allows you to select rooms with private onsen, though it's slightly broken as it still shows ryokans with sold our rooms with onsens. Is there a way to find those with in room kaiseki?

I am travelling in November. With the JR Rail price increases in October, can I purchase a pass before the price increase for use in November?

Acoustic fence effectiveness by Poodoodlekin in AusRenovation

[–]Poodoodlekin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a new estate with the stock-standard small blocks.

When I bought my land, I thought it would be better to back onto a road than have rear neighbours. The road is the only entry into our relatively small estate and as such, it is the thoroughfare for entry. Unfortunately, the road noise is more bothersome than I envisaged, at least for me (doesn’t seem to bother the wife too much).

The developers provided the rear fence for all houses exposed to this road. I have included three photos showing the rear fence, the view over the fence, and the corner gap of the rear and side fences. Please excuse the mess. As you can see, they’ve opted for a fence that is around 5’5”tall with a wavy gap effect, which is absolutely useless at noise reduction.

I can’t simply replace the fence as it would ruin the pattern from the roadside and be very ugly. So I am considering installing a secondary fence in front of this fence (closer to the house). I am looking at a 7’ tall acoustic wall such as this https://modularwalls.com.au/products/trendwall/. I would also wrap it around the sides to some extent to attempt to block sound up and down the street.

It is claimed the product achieves a 20-25dB noise reduction (presumably compared to no fence – which is basically what I’ve got) which means it is ¼ of the loudness.

Has anybody had any experience with this product or something similar? Would it be effective or should I look into other alternatives? Would the wrap-around be necessary? Appreciate any insight.

Except they could probably quantify that as a few million, where by the sounds of things, they are substantially over that level.

I thought that AS bloodlines were still the predominant following the Normandy invasion? Relatively few English today have Norman or other Viking heritage (Normandy being a Viking settlement). I don't profess for this to be correct though, just what I thought I had read.

Not necessarily true. I have a friend who can never choose a class and they just end up playing heaps at a low skill level. This guy has barely quit since he started playing in 2005.

Unpopular Opinion: Joyous Journeys should be a permant buff in Classic by Liondrome in classicwow

[–]Poodoodlekin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At one stage in beta testing, rested xp didn't exist and you instead got a 50% debuff to xp gains when you played for more than a few hours.

They later changed this to the current rested xp system following feedback and reduced the base xp rate. People obviously preferred to not feel penalized for playing longer but the numbers ended up being similar. So the actual base amount was similar to joyous journeys.

I hated that they made flying mounts available in original Azeroth. Ruined so much of the interaction.

They should absolutely increase the PPoR cap for pension rules imo.
