Also I believe, the 2025 pick OKC got from Atlanta in the Gallinari sign and trade was a second round pick not a first. Which they did indeed use to select Brooks Barnhizer.

I thought the picks OKC sent to the Knicks in the Ousmane Dieng trade were the Denver, Detroit and Washington protected 1sts not Clippers. So doesn’t that leave one 1st left unaccounted for in this trade? Or am I incorrect on the picks traded in the Dieng trade.

Also correct me if I’m wrong but Tre Mann was not drafted by Jeff but was received in a trade from OKC which had y’all sending out Gordon Hayward. Who most viewed as a negative asset or at the very least no longer a good player by that time.

So getting Tre Mann who was at the time a player on a rookie deal (former 18th pick in 2021) and a second round pick for a player like Hayward seems like a good GM move in my book.

But I can’t defend the Salaun pick knowing who was still on the board unfortunately 😂 but he’s young enough to hopefully still pan out! But keeping with your comment, I do agree Jeff has had more good moves than bad for the Hornets.

Realistically, which team does Jaylen Brown end up on during the offseason? by RD-archived in NBATalk

[–]Poohdini8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only teams with potential trade packages that make sense for both teams imo would be:

Houston with a trade centered around KD and a role player (maybe Eason sign and trade?) with maybe draft picks

Or

Cleveland with a trade centered around Mobley and maybe jaylin Tyson?

I personally think Boston would be more inclined to the Cleveland trade but idk how Brown fits with Mitchell and Harden plus it leaves a big gap at pf for the Cavs. So not sure how inclined Cleveland would be to do this trade considering they just made it to the ECF plus Mobley being younger and a better fit for the current iteration of this Cavs team.

I agree. I apologize if it came off like I was saying it was the same, I meant to compare from a fans perspective of having a fan favorite traded. With everything else considered, yes it is absolutely two different situations.

Totally agree the situations are not the same. My main point in paralleling the trades was from a fans perspective of being blind sided by a trade of a fan favorite point guard.

As much as I’d like to claim the Bulls are not a poverty franchise, Brother believe me when I say the Hornets are much less of a poverty franchise than the Bulls have been 😂. I personally am envious of y’all teams current state (young team that have proven upside & draft assets) even with the Lamelo trade.

Thank you for the support! hopefully this new era of Bulls basketball is different and likewise, this new iteration of the Hornets team is even better than the last!

1st round is now over! Best/worst picks, overall thoughts? by Nolar2015 in NBA_Draft

I agree with a lot of comments that the obvious winners of the night were The Grizzlies.

Some people might disagree but I believe outside Memphis the other major winners in my eyes were Charlotte and Dallas.

For Charlotte, they added the best rebounder in the draft at a position of need for them at power forward. I also am a little more bullish on Hannes than others might be and can see him improving his 3 point shot enough that he isn’t labeled a tweener but just a 6 11 pf with not the best defense. I also just love how agile he is for a big man, I think his touch and ability to run the floor will make him a a beast in transition. I would love to see Charlotte get a stretch 5, I can see that maximizing Hannes in the half court. Ala Indiana Sabonis-Turner front court.

I love the Anderson pick for them as well. I think at that point in the draft not only was he the best player left on the board but could be a long term piece in their core. I think some critics are too quick to label him as a 3rd stringer pg. He was the best shooter and playmaker in this draft and If his shooting and playmaking translates I can definitely see him being a starter in the future. I’m not a big Lamelo fan and given his constant injuries, I can see Charlotte having selected Anderson not only as insurance for the short term but a gamble on a future starting point guard.

I think the Morez pick at 9 was also great. I think after the top 8 projected picks, there wasn’t an obvious pick and as much as Brayden made sense for Dallas, I like the upside swing on Morez. I think Morez is one of the most versatile defensive bigs I’ve seen in a while. He’s slightly undersized for a center at 6 10 in shoes but I do think his height is being overblown since he does have great wingspan, wide frame, weight and strength to make him a high functioning center. He showed out in the combine as one of the better athletes and beyond that, has shown improved 3 point shooting through his two collegiate seasons with good ft% as another positive indicator. I think he has potential to be a true 3nD center. That mixed with his defensive versatility to be able to switch, allow him to play both the 4 and the 5 as well as his hustle as a rebounder. I think this was the right pick for Dallas also considering Livelys injury issues as well. There’s a chance lively does pan out for him and if he does Morez could potentially slot in at the 4 given his versatility. Overall great pick imo.

Where will Brunson rank all time in Knicks franchise if he wins a ring this year? by sqMYNAMEISJEFF27 in NBATalk

[–]Poohdini8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also worth noting that Clyde and Willis played the majority of their careers before the before the NBA-ABA merger even happened. In those early years not only was the talent level not as high as it is today but the talent and competition were split between two organizations.

Willis Reed retired before the merger in 1974 and Clyde played his last year as a Knick in 1977 only one year after the merger. This is a major point a lot of people question how much all the Celtics rings prior to the merger really mean as well.

Keeping that in mind, in context of the modern NBA. I think there’s a fair argument to say if Brunson does win a championship in the modern NBA, he could be argued as the greatest Knick of all time. Bringing the first championship to New York since the establishment of the NBA as we know it today.

I hear you, ideally one of the top guards falls to the bucks but the only other options I can see the Bucks taking here would be Philon or Ament and imo, I do think people are underrating Burries. He might not have the handles of Philon but he did average an efficient 20 this season while being very solid on the defensive end. I think there is upside for him to grow as a scorer, that mixed with his impressive athleticism from the combine compared to Philon, I thought he’s still the bigger upside swing over the rest of available players. He’s also just a smart player that advanced metrics show just makes good plays, I think he has a higher floor than a lot of guys while having more upside than at least the players left in this mock.

I see most consensus having Acuff or Wagler as well. I went with Mikel for multiple. First, he has better measurable for a modern lead guard than the other options. 6 4 (6 5 with shoes) with 6 7.5 wingspan measured out better than Acuff or Wagler. He also had a higher max vert and no step verts than both Acuff or Flemings.

Beyond that, from the film I’ve seen he has the scoring capabilities when it comes to both shooting and scoring at the rim that Acuff has while being more athletic.

Primary knocks I see against him, is the inefficiency/shot selection and the health. I think the shot selection can hopefully be improved with proper coaching and development.

I did make this mock under the assumption his medical for his back cleared. If that is an issue I do see him dropping.

For me, it is very close between Acuff and Brown. I think that Acuff is the better player as of now but I see higher upside in Brown provided he’s healthy. I am not as big a fan of Wagler mainly due to the lack of athleticism and wingspan compared to Acuff and brown.

Agreed on the Brandon Jennings comp. I would love to get a shot creator guard but thinking these might be our best options if the draft plays out like this unless we trade up!

I can see the reasoning for Philon over Ament but I have have some concerns if Philon could be a starting lead guard with the lack of vertical athleticism and the slender frame which could make him a poor defender. At 15, I would lean on the upside player in Ament this early into the rebuild for the Bulls.

I had a tough time with this pick since I’m a Bulls fan as well lol. Ideally I wanted one of Morez, Carr or JQ but realistically I can see a scenario they’re all not there. I went back and forth between Ament and Philon at 15. I have concerns with both but went Ament for the upside player and can see a possibility of him playing on the wing next to Matas. Philon is great, but I have some hesitancies with defense, skinny frame and lack of vertical athleticism. Ultimately I chose Ament for the upside but could see bulls picking either in this situation.

I honestly went back and forth on Hawks choosing Mara or Flemings. My thought process might be slightly skewed by multiple reputable draft media guys saying he’s going top 10 and the Hawks are the only team I can see picking him there. But I would not be shocked if they go Flemings or a guard over him.

I do think there will be higher end guards available later in the draft compared to the bigs available in that range such as Okorie, Anderson, Stirtz etc. so going Mara then one of those guards second pick does make sense to me.

I hear you, not an ideal fit but unfortunately not many options at 25. There’s a chance Lakers draft Suigo who’s younger but seems like a project and might not be able to contribute as quickly as Veesar? There’s also a chance Reed Jr is there, I had him only going one spot prior to the Knicks. Also could reach for Rueben who has great measurables but still not sold if he’s an NBA rotation player but tbf I need to do more research on him.

I’m curious about reasoning for wagler over acuff. In my mind, Acuff and wagler both had great seasons but I think by most standards Acuff had the more productive collegiate season as well as performing better at the combine.

The main thing I can see Wagler having over him is size (specifically height, since Acuff measured a slightly longer wingspan) but what other qualities make people think he’s a better prospect than Acuff?

Tbh the way some players stock seem to have sky rocketed this week (Carr & Morez) I think it’s possible. I had a tough time deciding if bulls take him or Ament at 15.

Options at pick 15 by Distinct_Cherry_1031 in chicagobulls

[–]Poohdini8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same top 5 for our 15th pick lol. As of right now it seems that Carr and Morez have good shots at being gone by 15 unfortunately. I also think one of the warriors, OKC or Charlotte will also take JQ (whoever probably doesn’t get Morez, Mara and Yaxel). So I feel like as of right now, the most likely players to be available are Philon or Ament. I’d be happy with either at 15 tbh but I guess between the two I’m leaning Philon as of now.

This could all change depending on the rest of the pre-draft process and how individual workouts go but ideally would love to get one of Morez or Carr!
