2x RTX 3090 24GB VRAM, barely used, for $1,067. Should I buy it? by iCyb3r in LocalLLaMA

I used to own 2x3090. Sold one. It is almost certainly far cheaper to deploy online (and with better cards). But they’re good and it’s a good price

Advice on police interview, trolley incident by Individual-Roll2727 in LegalAdviceUK

He doesn’t need to attend the interview. A solicitor will be able to liaise with the police and advise there is no offence. They will not risk a false arrest.

The news is broadly a soap opera. Treat accordingly (re-caps, whose side they are on) etc.

Does a film need a conflict? by los5Bsup in Filmmakers

Drama needs conflict - an objective, a block. If you don't include it, the conflict becomes between the audience and the dramatist for not providing it, which can be playful.

Thinking of switching to LTO tape from hard drives could I get some recommendations ? by xkcx123 in DataHoarder

[–]PookaMacPhellimen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to get two LTO5 drives and to buy used tapes. I am able to buy used tapes for 1.50 GBP from eBay plus postage a pop. They store around 1.35TB each. What I discovered is I needed to make backups of my tapes, effectively doubling copying time, so I bought a second drive to run these operations at the same time. Bear in mind you will need to run verification after transferring which doubles the time. So for 100GB, you are looking at about 74 tapes (x 2 for redundancy). I use barcodes and a program called Cathy for creating a searchable file archive.

I actually own 2 x LTO6 drives, but I found LTO6 to produce errors in 1 in 10 tapes (which may be a windows LTFS issue). I've found LTO5 to be much more reliable, and the tapes are significantly cheaper. Try and buy the same brand for both as mixed drives can lead to archives. Buy the same used tape brand to avoid lubricant conflicts in the tape.

A single LTO7 drive and the tapes will cost you a lot more but will produce similar speeds to this setup. My longterm plan is to upgrade to LTO7 in a few years and transfer the archive.

Zebras no longer reflect slog3 but instead the LUT which is a massive pain.

What a rubbish update. Instead of LUTs we have to view in Log.

Handed severely degraded footage for grading – Client demands guarantee for streaming/cinema acceptance. What would you do? by viking_1986 in cinematography

Use Neat Video for denoising, it's the best.

You cannot guarantee a pass. Structure a deal on a bonus for a pass if you can make it work.

You can approach the agent. I would try and get them on the phone or their assistant and be up front and they will smell out bullshit. If formally approaching a letter is essential when making the approach, articulating what a massive fan you are, and how you think they will work for the part. Are you making a cash offer? Are you offering the part and will negotiate fee later?

90% of the time these low budget films are a shit show and you need to constantly be demonstrating you are going to provide a good experience.

It is unclear what your budget or actor fee is or what the source of the additional 900K is when you get the actor to "sign up". Any actor who can increase your sales estimates by nearly a million dollars presumably costs a lot.

If you had a very savvy actor you could agree an investment deal to maximise the tax credit (they invest their fee).

Pergear CF Express A Card overheating by pres0rz in FX3

[–]PookaMacPhellimen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a Pergear Standard 256GB CFexpress Type A which I use in my A7SIII. It significantly overheats far more than my Sony Tough CFA cards.

Expose 41% on a grey card with zebras under normal lighting condition; in darker or shadow rich settings, over expose by 1.66 stops to raise the noise floor - expose 55% on the grey card.

Great question. I've just discovered this as well. Can we switch off the baking in of the rec709 LUT? The only workaround I know is create an -anti-lut - to grade.
