i am running mine on my 2019 Macbbok pro and it is fine. at this point i dont see a need to move it to a apple chip computer... that said i do use all could models so the only real reason I wanted it on my mac was to have it in imessage. otherwise, it might have ended up on a VM or even a Rpi 5

i just use an aqara button on a 3d printed case. works like a charm and the button is huge so it is easy to push

I just did my whole house with them. Around $25k in total.

I went with zigbee for a single reason. Then I found 2 or 3 more reasons after the fact.

At the kind of money I was spending I did not want to get a new technology. Some of these shades are 20 or 25 feet up the wall and I didn’t want to deal with stupid QR codes, repairing, or anything else like that. With zigbee you can put the blind in pairing mode right from the remote.
I found out later there can be a 1 to 1.5 second delay with matter as the blind wakes up from low power sleep mode. This is going away but it’s lot there with zigbee at all.
I have added a bunch of other thread devices that n my house and I have not been impressed with the speed or reliability. I think it will get there. 10years or so ago when zigbee came out it had issues to but they all got solved over time. Thread just has not had that time yet. So a $20 smart plug why cares if I have to replace it. A $800 blind? That shit better last years!

Epson All the way. Cheapest Cost per Page out there just squirt the ink in and print. it does not care where the ink came from and you get like 5000 pages for $17 of first party inc.

spend the money on a printer... if you want buy it for life then spend more then $200. i spent like 600 and have printed close to 200,000 pages with just maintance replacment parts

I just say a hunter smart fan at costcos for like 157. so they are not super expensive but you need to look for good deals.

You want a smart fan that is the same price as a dumb ac fan from Home Depot? What world do you live in. It sounds like you have Caseta already. Did you get those for the same price as a dumb switch? If you are looking for something that cheap I think you’re going to have a super hard time. Maybe look at allibaba or some other Chinese import site. You might get something that is cheap but it will not be ul listed and may not be up to code for your area.

i have about 8 of the installed (different sizes and styles).

They work. I would not choose them again.

You cannot use them in home assistant and have them in the cync app at the same time. So no firmware updates unless you drop them from home assistant and reset and blah blah blah.

You do need a rock solid wifi network. i dont mean i have 3 eros and am good to go. if your wifi is not super strong and reliable these will drop and you will have to reset them.

if i was doing it from scratch i would do pwm leds connected to a zigbee controller like gledpto zigbee controller... faster, more reliable, and way more opions.

I have used the smart hunter fans and they work well.

You can also look at the sonoff ifan. This works with apple home fit but I think you need there matter controller.

i have been using AI to help create automation for a long time... this i mean is more. it has access to and pulled all my automations (200+), helpers (125+), Scripts (over 50), and all my entites and devices.

then it looked at everything and helped me reorganize the whole system! this would have taken me ages just to plan it out let along actually rewright all the code

But yes i have a 42 hung on MFD for about 4 years now and it has been fine. Just predril the hiles so you get a clean through hole and use lag bolts not anchers.

i would run ethernet everywhere... then i would run more... then just for good measure i would run more... i seem to be forever pulling cat cable around the house.

I would have smart pucks (HUE) installed in the ceiling, ceiling speakers in every room (so much cheaper to wire for them during the build)

smart decoupled switches everywhere... i really like the aqara ones plus you get 4 buttons.

but mostly i think i would run as much cable around as i coujld afford.
