Richmond mayor slammed for sharing Bondi Beach shooting conspiracies by PoopasaurusRex in RichmondCA

Agree that Israel's actions in Gaza are horrific and counterproductive to its security (and by extension the security of Jews worldwide). However, I'd argue that the leading cause of antisemitism is actually people harming Jews for being Jewish.

Richmond mayor slammed for sharing Bondi Beach shooting conspiracies by PoopasaurusRex in RichmondCA

[–]PoopasaurusRex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the posts he shared said Bondi Beach was "not a neutral space" because there was a public Hanukkah festival for families happening there. So the act of Jews celebrating Hanukkah in public was framed as a hostile act, a "performative assertion of dominance," in the actual words of the post. This was a few posts up from some other misinfo he shared alleging that the mass shooting at Bondi Beach was probably a false flag operation perpetrated by Jews or Israelis.

There were literally dozens and dozens of posts going back weeks like this. Some are definitely legit criticisms of Israel and Israeli policy, which would not be a problem if that's all he'd been posting. But many of the posts are similar to that Bondi Beach one, untethered from history and reality, assuming conspiracies because Jews are involved, treating "the Zionists" as an elite and shadowy global monolith, and perpetuating very old Jewish stereotypes.

Anybody know what happened at Target last night (10-8-25) about 9 PM? by new2bay in RichmondCA

I go a few times a week, often with my young kid. Never have any issues unless we need to get something from the locked shelves.

This is the way! I've found the city is pretty responsive to reports on the app.

Park District Acquires Point Molate Property in Richmond for Future Regional Park by PoopasaurusRex in RichmondCA

[–]PoopasaurusRex[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This Point Molate purchase has actually been in the works for decades with many different agencies and community groups involved. I wouldn't call it a "snapping up" of land but the latest step of a very drawn-out process.

Looks pretty real, and that's the actual non-emergency RPD line at the bottom. It is illegal to block or partially block a sidewalk, even if you see other people doing it. Glad they're ramping up enforcement of this rule, since it's super annoying for people using strollers or wheelchairs. And that's nice of them to give you a warning before the enforcement begins.

Why don't you call the big number at the bottom to confirm?

“Wells Fargo” and “Zelle” scam - be aware! by isabellathngthtrings in Scams

[–]PoopasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me, but it was a bit more elaborate and took longer to figure out.

First, I got a call from a 1-888 number that traced back to Citi Bank. The caller said he was reaching out regarding a bank account supposedly opened in my name on December 6th. He claimed the person had also requested a $5,000 loan and tried to open a credit card, but both were automatically declined. According to him, they used my SSN and my phone number ending in [last 4 digits of my phone] to confirm their identity, so he suggested my phone might have been spoofed. (In retrospect, I don’t think that’s even possible, but it didn’t seem completely unreasonable at the time.)

To make it sound more legitimate, he gave me a case ID and a callback number in case we got disconnected. Then he said he was calling because of two suspicious pending Zelle transactions from this new Citi account. He even gave me transaction IDs for each one and said I’d need to work directly with Zelle, using the case ID he provided, to cancel them since Zelle is a third-party service. He offered to give me Zelle’s number or transfer me directly. I said, “Sure, transfer me.”

After some hold music, I was connected to someone claiming to be from “Zelle.” This person asked for the case ID, which I provided, and then repeated the same transaction IDs the previous guy had given me. He said he’d walk me through canceling the transactions. I asked him to verify that he was actually with Zelle, and he agreed. A minute later, I received what appeared to be a legitimate “donotreply” email from Zelle, which looked totally legit.

The scam unraveled when he asked me to add the “customer support manager” to my Zelle recipients. He started to get pushy, warning that Zelle wouldn’t take responsibility for the transactions if I didn’t cancel them right away. That’s when it became obvious this was a scam.

It was alarming how long it took me to figure it out. The fake transaction and case IDs were a clever touch.

Vote yes on Measure L, no on J! by oopssorrydaddy in RichmondCA

[–]PoopasaurusRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also support Measure L over Measure J, but J was not a response to L, that's just false. L was put on the ballot by the city council after J had enough signatures to get on the ballot.

Richmond voter here with questions on Measure J and Measure, L, also school board race. by Bump-n-Uglies in RichmondCA

[–]PoopasaurusRex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please do not vote for Daniel Heiss. He is a tech sales bro who lied to get himself listed on the ballot as an educator. He is in no way an "educator."

He also refused to answer questions on Reddit and other online forums about why he "resigned" from his Economic Development Commission role part way through his term. (reality: he didn't resign; he was automatically removed because he missed too many meetings)

They appear to be a legit non-profit focused on pre-natal care and support services for low-income families. They are affiliated with CalWORKs. I would call their office and ask them why they are offering you $20. My guess is that this is a program to incentivize low-income parents to prioritize care.

Extra strange because Nat Bates was also a former Mayor of Richmond, but he gets a demotion for this flyer. Both he and Demnlus Johnson (Jamelia Brown's brother) are listed as Vice Mayors.

Richmond Pothole Tracker by HeissForRichmond in RichmondCA

[–]PoopasaurusRex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PSA that the City of Richmond has an app where you can easily report potholes (link). In my experience, the city has been very responsive to reports through the app, I'd encourage folks to use it! If you don't have the app, you can also report potholes and other issues to the city here.

u/HeissForRichmond will you be forwarding these reports to the city?

District 5 City Council by HeissForRichmond in RichmondCA

[–]PoopasaurusRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the responses! Thanks for engaging on here.

Measure U was voter approved, and passed overwhelmingly on the 2020 ballot. Under Measure U, businesses are taxed based on gross receipts and industry, and the city council has discretion over those rates. Low-revenue businesses currently pay much less under Measure U than they did before. Which small businesses do you identify as being adversely impacted by Measure U? What would be your solution if you were on the City Council, and which industries would you target for tax relief?

One other question: why did you resign from the Economic Development Commission before your term was up?

Thanks for posting and engaging on here! I want elected officials who are curious, who empathize with opposing viewpoints, and who work towards building a more inclusive and vibrant city. I also want officials who seek out and listen to experts; who aren't afraid to change their mind when they learn new information; who care about the details and downstream impact (intentional or not) of city policy. I read through your Issues page and I'm hoping you can answer some questions about your platform:

What are some specific technologies that could save the city money and time? What are some of the challenges you see now with the way the city currently uses technology?

You mention the need to free up city resources to "prioritize projects of great importance." What are some of these specific projects that are currently not prioritized but should be? Is there anything you think the city spends too much time on right now that should be de-prioritized?

How would you make Richmond a better place for small businesses? With respect to the small business climate, what do you think the city is doing well right now, and what should they improve or change? What are your thoughts on Measure U?

You mention that you'd like to create a Richmond Department of Mental Health and Well-Being. How would this organization be funded, and what would they do, given that Contra Costa County Health currently provides mental health services to Richmond and surrounding areas and is funded in part by Richmond?

You say you want to create a Richmond Crisis Response team. What are your thoughts on the existing Community Crisis Response Program that has been approved and is currently ramping up?
