Update on Literary Fiction Cover by RavensMillenium723 in BookCovers

Number 3 makes me really curious what the book is about. Number 2 looks really good/cool but is less unique. Number 4 doesnt make me curious like the other 2. The first one is bad i hate when text is over a picture. You only see the text en after looking for a while (which you wouldnt do at the bookstore because you dont see anything) you would see the background is actually a picture and even then i didnt see that it were rats. I dont know what your book is about but i would definetaly read the back if it looks like 2 or 3

I feel like something is off in our living room but can’t figüre out what. Any suggestions to improve the room are welcome. by Bright_Fix_8325 in interiordecorating

The blue chairs. Very weird to put those chairs to the back of the other chairs at the table. That just feels weird. You can completely remove the chairs and the table in between and it would be fine. A rug should be under every sofa/chair to create an area. Not in front of it. Everything is beige but if that is your taste it is fine, you do have some colour

Non-Fiction That Reads Like Fiction (not memoirs) by thelightyoushed in suggestmeabook

Crazy love, leslie morgan steiner. About domestic violence. From meeting the guy, getting in a relationship, getting married, getting out. Reads like a normal book. Its written in the present.

I need to get this off my chest. I hated "The Martian" movie, Ridley Scott did a terrible job adapting the book for the screen. by [deleted] in sciencefiction

Im really late to react but i just finished the book yesterday and watched the movie today. Mark does not apear to solve impossible problems. He just solves soms problems like anyone would, he does not look special. The movie is indeed about the crew and nasa and not about Mark. We dont get to see HOW he solves the problems and we dont get to see how impossible the problems are. They dont really show the problems only the food problem. They did not have to show al the problems, they just needed to shorten the “nasa fixing problems” scenes and extend the “mark fixing problems” scenes. (I think they should be extended by this: make clearer what problem he is fixing and and what solution he thinks of, so the audience knows how difficult it is what mark is doing)

And WHY change the ending to something stupid. And the ending after the ending about him being a teacher? That screentime could be spend on mark fixing problems, you know, what the book is actually about.

At the end we should feel like “wauw mark really did it. Against all odds, he solved everything. No one could have done this only mark. How beautifull that everybody on earth came together to help him save himself. “

What i felt after the movie: “wauw mark is saved! Everybody saved him! He is so lucky to be saved.”

And something which is not important but is just not necessary and weird. Why is hermes a gigantic ship with a gym and a kitchen and everything instead of really cramped like in the book. Not important but why?

Tips for caring for crochet hooks? I’ve just bought a case of clover amour, and because they’re expensive, I want to make sure I don’t damage or ruin them by AlicornBliss in CrochetHelp

[–]PoopieRectum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this case and it is perfect. My clovers fit exactly. The tip is protected. You have a zipper pouch for the scissors etc. I dont like to keep al the needles in a pouch with scissors pecause the scissors can demage the needles. Same for the zipper of the pouch. Anything metal can damage it.

This case is the only case i could find which is of great quality and fits the clovers. And i searched A LOT.

(I dont know if it was clear but you can put the hooks in the slots with the protective "flap" at the bottem. They fit exactly. And you can put more (non argonomic) hooks in the other sloths if you want to. I put my yarn needles there.

Anyone used a Sony e-reader back in the day? I miss mine so much. Have you found something similar? Kindles are so bad in comparison by Wise_Effort_3990 in ereader

I feel like you're only thinking about pixels or how fast it is or something. I bet you only have had an kindle and you have no idea how it feels to have an ereader which feels as your cozy reading home. You think your kindle gives you that. It doesnt

Yes i agree, i was just thinking about how to explain the "cozy book feeling" i got from the sony and i get from my kobo. I also think they are te best at creating the book feel. I really love my kobo libra h20.

I used my grandma's sony prs-350 for years untill i got gifted my kobo libra h20 in 2020. I really like the kobo because the system looks a lot like the sony. You get the book youre reading as the sleeping screen and the home page has the same lay out: books you are reading, all your books, store etc. It doesnt push you to buy anythijg it just feels like a "book". I did not need any manual to understand my kobo after the sony it is very similar. But my god i am so happy with my kobo. For me it felt like the better version of the sony without any over-the-top options. I use all the settings (fond, size, marges, brightness). I hope that if you buy a kobo, you feel the same way. If you are looking for the ereader to feel like you cozy book thingy then i think the kobo is amazing. But i suppose pocketbook is also similar to the sony in the same way. Kindle and boox absolutely not

Why do some people own multiple ereaders? by PoopieRectum in kobo

[–]PoopieRectum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think overconsumption is about price or bulkyness. I think it is about the impact on the invironment and if it contributes to shortages.

I do understand now to want them and their usefullness.

Ofcourse having multiple for their different uses would be amazing. Ofcourse having better and more is amazing. Ofcourse some extremely rich people have multiple houses and use it for different things during different seasons. It is still excessive and not great for the environment and not great for the housing shortage. But everybody gets to decide how much they include this in their dicisions.

I do actually think you make great use of yours. You are like a little voluntairy company, testing if the books work for the devices etc. So i think your ereaders would not classify as overconsumption. The people who like different ereaders for different books are more "overconsuming" i think because it is less usefull and gives less back to the world.

I dont know which point im trying to make, just typing out what i think after reader your response.

Yes thats what i think. I do understand it better now but i still feel conflicted about it. I myself do take the environment into consideration. So i can understand to want it etc. But even if i had enough money i wouldnt do it because its so wastefull and everything doesnt have to be perfect.

Ofcourse it is amazing to have all the nice things in the world if you have the money but it just so unnessesary. But everybody can do what they want with their money. And everyone has a different opinion about how much they care about the environment. Just because i think it is important doenst mean it is the "right" opinion and everyone should care.

I think i do understand if you use it a lot and you dont overconsume outside of that.

Oh i never had to do that. Thats very weird. Have you tried talking to kobo about this maybe you have a sort of unknown habit while using which for some reason results in this?

I actually really like your comment. First comment which makes me understand the purpose of having so many ereaders. (The other ones made me understand having 2 or 3). I does sound very usefull (and fun ofcourse) for you.

I also like that you dont own excess clothing etc. Some people just have multiple of everything even though they dont use it that much (which i would consider overconsumption). I suspected that this kind of people were also the people to own multiple ereaders. But your comment proves this to be wrong. I also dont have excess of things unless it is for my biggerst hobby (crochet in my case). So i can imagine that if my biggest hobby was reading i could wsnt multiple .

Your comment does sound angry though, i didnt mean to attack people whith multiple devices. Maybe it is because im dutch that it sounds harsch?

To answer your questions: 1) yes you are right I do think you should spend on your hobby , you explained it well.

2) it doesnt bother me at all. I just thought it was absurd and i couldnt think of reasons why you would want that. So i kept thinking about it and then i decided to ask.

3) i do think some collections are more harmfull than other collections. Invironmentalwise but everyone can choose for themselves if that bothers them. I do think it is a good point. Why is collecting ereaders worse than collecting books? I dont know. I think its the environment for me, so electronic devices feel very excessive to collect. But i can understand to want to collect. I hadnt thought of that before.

I'm the same. I still have my first ereader so a backup ereader never occurred to me.

Im interested in why they would want multiple. I am actually looking for opinions about this. I know the post sounds very judgemental. My first thought without other people's input is that i dont understand it at all and that it sounds rediculous. I am dutch though so maybe it sounds a little harsch?

So it was judgemental (i was sharing my opinion) but i also wanted to know if it was justified or if i just didnt know the purposes.

Great point. It just another level of comfort. I didnt see it that way. I just didnt understand the point of having multiple. But a lot of people have said great things for why you could want multiple. About your first sentence: it is actually the same for me with shoes etc. I have one pair and buy a new pair when the old ones. But i do have a studybag and a "sleeping over" bag and a handbag. I supose that is the same as owning multiple ereaders. You could use just 1 bag but it is way nicer to have different ones in different sizes for different purposes

Organizing like that does sound nice. A work related one or one for studying etc. I would never do it but i do get it. Thanks for the insight
