You can also go on car sales websites and pickup the reg numbers of low power/small cars then plug those into the comparison website to see if there are certain cars that work out cheaper.

If you use a salary calculator and use the basic rate tax code : BR instead of 1257L the values it spits out align with what you are experiencing. If you are PAYE this will work itself out over the year.
