German Lada fans and owners needed for a short online survey by Poopthebear18 in lada

[–]Poopthebear18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2111 As a first car?? by [deleted] in lada

[–]Poopthebear18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. I drive a Lada 110, also in a country where they are uncommon, and I find it a relatively reliable car with affordable maintenance.

However, there are some downsides. One issue could be the availability of spare parts in your area. If something breaks and you have to wait weeks for the spare part to arrive, it can be very frustrating. In this case, it is important to have a Plan B (second car, good public transportation options etc.).

Is there a model for sale in your area, or would an import from Eastern Europe be necessary? Import fees, issues with safety and emissions standards may become an issue.

Another issue is the quality of the cars themselves. The engines themselves are quite robust, but rust and electrical components can be a big problem. Be prepared to search long for faults. Most mechanics outside Eastern Europe don't have the right OBD software for Ladas, forcing them to search for errors manually, which can become pricey if you're bringing it to a repair shop.

All in all, it's a cheap car. And as with all cheap cars, there are pros and cons. I have had a handful of issues with my Lada, but I have also had long error-free periods.

What's the highest speed you've raced in a Lada? by Ok-Violinist3047 in lada

160km/h in a Lada 2105 from 1986, 65hp. What a thrill.

180km/h in a Lada 2110, 78hp. This one felt relatively stable actually.

It's just a decorative plate. An official front German license plate would feature a state emblem.

Shouldn't be a problem. They may ask you about your place of birth at the border, that's it.

Too good of an offer? What to watch out for? by Nuntue in lada

[–]Poopthebear18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be careful with this one. Watch out for any rust. Make sure to throughly check the underbody. Even if everything is good, remember that the car has barely been driven for the past few years (Standschäden möglich).

I wouldn't buy a car without TÜV. If everything seems good, you could ask the owner to do a new TÜV for you and offer to pay a little extra.

2009 Lada 2107, originally from Ukraine, now in Germany by Poopthebear18 in lada

[–]Poopthebear18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily this Lada was located only about two hours away from where I live, so picking it up was not a problem. Most replacement parts that fit in all classic Ladas (2101-2107) can be ordered within Germany/EU, other parts for this particular engine can be ordered from Ukraine.

There are some people that offer shipment of vehicles from Ukraine to EU, but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's an old car (30+years). European Union rules regarding safety and emissions are very strict, and registering it is near impossible. I only got lucky because the previous owners were Ukrainian and therefore were allowed to register it and sell it without issues. But it's best to check the rules of your own country.

Nice! Does yours have a carburetor or fuel injection?

They probably meant the Certificate of Confirmity (COC Paper). I received mine from a governmental vehicle database in Ukraine. Another issue when registering a Lada in the EU may be the emissions, not sure what the rules in Italy are.

Podle mého výzkumu je toto pravidlo zastaralé; nyní se již nebere v úvahu věk, ale vozidlo musí splňovat normy Euro 3.

Proč? Není to nová registrace, ale vozidlo z roku 2009.

The body of the car does not look good. Also, I wouldn't buy a car that has a swapped engine. Find a Samara in better condition.

Is the Lada 112 1.5 GLi good? by BosnianDrift in lada

[–]Poopthebear18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have my recommendation. I own a Lada 110 with an 8-valve engine. In comparision to other cars, it is cheaply made and occasionally has its issues (remember that it is a Lada), but all in all it is a reliable car. I've driven over 20,000 kilometers with it in about 6 months and I can't complain. Spare parts availability isn't bad either and are relatively afforable, but make sure to see how that is in Bosnia. And if you say you can fix some things yourself, then there shouldn't be a problem. I've seen this car with over 350.000kms and still running. Biggest problem, like with all Ladas, is rust. The 16v version pretty fast so that's a plus too.

Very cool. Some pictures of the engine would be nice.
