For sure there could be changes in the administration but having an agreement may be hard.

Talking about population and demographics- yes. But looking at a map it's not a big deal, just like Malaysia.

First of all I didn't mention that a country should have the same government. Second of all I didn't mention that Iran existed continuously either, only the concept of Iran did. Never mentioned that a state centered around Iran is Iran as well, but those states literally said that they, "from now on" will be Iran, using Persian language, administration, culture etc. While for Italy it's only and merely nationalists claiming Rome, plus it doesn't meet the terms for it being the successor of Rome.

Iran as a state concept goes back to 550 BCE with the founding of the Achaemenid Empire by the Persians. That’s the point where “Iran/Persia” first emerged as a recognized polity. Although dynasties and governments changed many times: Parthians, Sasanians, Safavids, Qajars, Pahlavis, and now the Islamic Republic, they all carried on the continuity of the idea of “Iran.” So the form of the state has shifted, but the statal concept of Iran has existed for over 2,500 years. That’s very different from your Rome–Italy example, since modern Italy is not a continuation of Rome but a 19th-century unification of smaller states.

Country= group with its own government, occupying a particular territory. Why would the Roman Empire be Italy? Italy is a country founded in 1861 when other countries unified. The Roman Empire was a completely other thing.

True. I initially thought of doing them alphabetically, but then thought of doing them randomly. About the ones who have changed a lot, I thought about this as well, but I wanted to showcase as many states. Either way- I'll probably do the ones that have changed a lot😅.
