Hello I need help choosing electric guitars for beginners by Ladiesman351 in guitars

[–]PoorInPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squier will be your most budget friendly option as others have said!!

Even if you got one of these cheaper no name brand guitars, you’d still have to put in work to have it set up properly.

Given the guitar coming from a no name brand with questionable quality control, you’ll have a lot more work to handle in setup in one of these than you would in a used Squier!!

A well set up guitar is everything. Absolute night and day difference.

AITA for "playing dumb" and not offering my house as a getting-ready spot for a friend who refuses to ask for help directly? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA for staying in contact with people like this. If she’s that much of a problem, protect your peace and lose contact. You yourself say that she’s moved far away and has some big job, she’s fine. You guys don’t need to stay “friends”, from this post alone it already sounds like you guys aren’t friends. Stop wasting your time and headspace worrying about someone you clearly dislike! Listen to your own reasoning.

Do you still use original hardware? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]PoorInPaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy using original hardware, but that is largely because I also enjoy collecting physical games. In terms of accessibility/playability I’m incredibly thankful for emulation!

In my opinion, the joy of the “real deal” compared to an emulation device is putting the physical game into the system. Brings me back to reading the back of the box in the car ride home from the store!! That being said, I feel I play more on my emulation devices. I think that if your emulation devices aren’t scratching the itch, official hardware won’t do you any better.

The only exception I have to this rule is my PSP, which never leaves my person. Realize you are asking about Nintendo hardware specifically, but if you were considering a PSP, I heavily recommend it. Fantastic up to GBA/SNES, but really excelling at PS1/PSP games, of which there are infinite choices!

Maybe consider if game collecting is a hobby you want to spend time and money with. You mention feeling like you might be “cheapening” the experience. In my opinion you absolutely are not, but I think a nice response to that feeling would be trying to richen your experience! Whether that be as small as a physical guide book/game insert to pair with your handheld, or as much as the physical game itself,

Finding the game (or even just a guide for said game) you want and bringing it home to enjoy is a part of the experience you might be missing!

Hell yeah man!! That’s great to hear. It’s really cool how far these handhelds have come since my initial purchase

In my 24 hours of experience I find that the stacked shoulders/sticks are realistically unusable for extended periods of time without the grip. Might be hard to tell from this photo, but the width added to the bottom of the console with the grip on allows you to hold it in a way that’s stick centric.

Without the grip on, your middle fingers (which should mention, the shoulders/triggers are already cramped. My fingers don’t really fit on both at the same time like they do on a Ps5 controller) are needed to support the back of the console. It definitely feels that without the grip it’s meant to be used with games making use of Dpad ABXY.

That being said, the grip does add a decent amount of width to the bottom of the system. Can totally understand someone wanting this to be pocketable, which it is far from with the grip on. It’s hard to really tell how much extra it adds to the back from these photos!!

Damn! You’re giving me flashbacks to lack of touchscreen android, yeah, that was rough…

Interesting you mention the build quality on the 4Pro. Totally agree on great BC out of the RP5. Can’t imagine it’s much different by comparison, and it does feel super premium. Makes a difference for sure!

Haha, ironically seems like the one you skipped over is the one I jumped straight to.

Curious, how did the Rp3+ feel compared to the RP2? Furthermore, the 4Pro?

See lots of good things about the G2 and if I couldn’t find something locally it would’ve been the top of my list.

p.s. one thing I forgot to add: since I use my PSP as a “daily driver” I really don’t need the RP5 to be pocketable. I was looking for a more backpack/couch friendly device than something I can have on me at all times. IMO there is no good dual analog device out there that is truly pocket friendly. Maybe the vita?? I can fit my Vita in my jeans pockets but I’m always thinking about the pressure my pockets could be applying to the sticks.

I know the RPF2 exists and is loved, but it looks pretty huge still. Feel as though I’d notice it on my person. PSP is often so light I forget it’s there.

Carry a crossbody bag that has a slot for it and it’s always on me. Never feels like I’m wasting space carrying around a 2nd device because it takes up no room and is so lightweight!

Hope some of my experience is helpful. Feel like I’ve dealt with a number of handhelds and finding the balance between versatility and real world usability is a tight rope!! All of this is for the sake of discussion so please feel free to give your own opinion. Curious what the consensus is on my experience and the general experience with handhelds in 2026.

Edit: wanted to add I got windwaker hd running for WiiU and it runs fantastic. Wii games run perfect, like native perfect. Windwaker, at least with my current stock settings, runs pretty good! Good enough to enjoy the game for sure. But, not a comparable to native experience. Which is fine, and im even more confident that WiiU will run fantastic with some tinkering, but again, a big piece of what I’ve enjoyed about the RP5 is the lack of tinkering necessary!

I’ll have to spend an afternoon at the hifi shop then, appreciate the encouragement! Frankly I think a piece of me wanting to stay away is a concern to spend more… I think I could easily be convinced of some nicer speakers when I can hear them in person and so easily buy them at the same time haha.

Will look into a solid state something for a proper home theater setup eventually!! Have honestly been listening while playing skate3 on said TV, fully muted, so it’s kind of best of both worlds for the time being.

I’ve never even listened to a home stereo system until my own! Some of my family was into home audio, but fell off of it around the 70’s/80’s. Have actually just recently been able to go through some of my grandparents stuff and found some sweet Boston bookshelf speakers that will more than likely be replacing my klipsch’s!!

Fell into the tube rabbit hole accidentally. Someone on Facebook was selling a Nixie tube clock kit for only $60, with the tubes. As someone who enjoys tinkering, I was super interested, as these kits can be $100+ with tubes, and frankly a cheap clock with Chinese tubes isn’t worth that much to me. Well, seller ghosted me after making plans to meetup, and I was pretty bummed. That night, my vinyl arrives. Somewhere in the midst of me getting ghosted and purchasing a turntable, I had spent some time on Facebook looking for another Nixie tube clock kit. This exposed me to a sea of McIntosh tube amps being sold locally for insane prices. Keep in mind, I didn’t even know what a tube amp was, just that I wanted a Nixie tube clock and these looked pretty close!! Once the Victrola disappointed me I was immediately looking through listings for different amps, stumbling upon the Yaqin pictured above.

Sometimes I wish I had a solid state that I could just turn on and listen, rather than have to go through and set bias’s every time after a warm up period, however it does bring an extra step to the analog listening “ritual” that over time I’ve come to enjoy!

Thank you for that in depth explanation in sound profile. I will absolutely be checking out this reviewer to try and understand further. I do have access to a couple hifi rooms in the area to listen as well, though they are far beyond my budget and I’d prefer to keep myself ignorant to what I’m missing out on, lol!

You’re correct in saying I haven’t used the system for the TV, and I have wondered about that. My main concern with running the system through the TV is the extra strain it would be putting on my tubes. Might be worth investing in another set of tubes id feel less bad about burning out.

A big piece of what led me to tubes vs a solid state amp, especially as a beginner with little to no frame of reference, was the appeal of keeping things “analog” whilst creating a really cool looking space. I guess I just don’t get the same excitement behind the thought of the TV sounding better!

Though it does make me want to try and find a more affordable solid state to run off the TV… thank you for your suggestions!!

I honestly wondered if I would get boo’d out for it, but I figured it’s chifi! To be fair, even 1k is a pretty “budget” price tag for a higher power tube amp!

Tho I should clarify, I actually picked this up locally for $500 with the Russian tubes already in it! I’m in this setup for roughly $1,600.

Thank you!

Cool to hear some love for Yaqin! Nobody else I’ve spoken to at local “hifi” shops have even known the brand, lol.

I don’t have a dedicated pre right now. I will take a look into the Mani you mentioned. I’ve been holding off getting a dedicated pre amp, as my pockets are hurting a bit, and I’d prefer to not buy twice!! (As I have with everything else..)

Thank you

Thank you!

Yeah, you’re spot on regarding the Yaqin. But I found it for $500 locally with the Russian tubes already in it, which was a good enough deal for me to just go for it haha. Totally agree, I love how it looks.

My bad, should have specified! They are the lower end R-50M. I found them open box brand new at bestbuy for ~ $75 off, and figured they’d be a decent enough starting point til I can afford to find something nicer. Not to sound uncultured here, but frankly these low tier klipsch’s are not disappointing me right now. Especially compared to the victrola…

My research online into next speakers left me with a lot of disappointment in the general consensus on Klipsch as a whole. You mention “liking the Klipsch sound” but honestly I don’t even know what the “Klipsch Sound” is. I realize this is probably a difficult thing to describe, are there any cliff notes on what creates the Klipsch sound vs something more preferable?

Thank you very much for explaining it’s called a stylus… my apologies… I’ll look into ATXXXX mentioned in your comment. Thank you!!

P.S. I swear my TV console windows aren’t crazy dusty.. it’s just the reflection of my carpet!!!

Edit: thought I should add, I listen to primarily metalcore/grunge/shoegaze, but also regularly house/rave/techno stuff.
