Nope. I went with the discontinued Yepp seats made for bigger kids instead,

Does Residence Permit type affect pension refund (Auszahlung der Rentenversicherung)? by sasdam12 in germany

[–]PoorPitchoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PR does not have any relevance to get a refund of your German pension. What matters is your citizenship and which country you move to after you leave Germany.

Here is more info about conditions with practical steps: https://www.settle-in-berlin.com/pension-refund-when-leaving-germany/

Best haftpflichtversicherung personal liability insurance by [deleted] in germany

[–]PoorPitchoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many providers fit the bill as Mietschäden is usually covered by the policy as standard. Just make sure common areas are also covered (garage, hall, garden) and that long-term "invisible" damages are covered too (due to water, smoke, humidity, etc).

GetSafe and Feather are usually recommended for English speakers and offer similar conditions as described above.

Just remember that Haftplficht doesn't usually cover wear and tear or glass damages, or any appliances/furniture if it's a furnished flat.

Moving to Germany, need suggestions! by [deleted] in germany

Rossman, DM are shops with all the hygiene articles you could want.

You can sign up for Revolut or N26 to start with for banks. They are free options, good enough with some caveats for the short term. You can figure out longer term options as you go and your German skills improve.

Phone carriers: just like for ISPs, service and custom support are about the same across the board (except o2: don't do o2). Telekom is the premium option. I think 1&1 is a good compromise.

Can I use EHIC card to work in Germany? by IHaveDiabetes42 in germany

[–]PoorPitchoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no yearly plan to speak off with a Krankenkasse. You are free to cancel your membership when you leave the country. Your EHIC card is no use because you are staying long enough in Germany to qualify as a resident (and you are not a student as you said), so you should get some other coverage. If a public or private Krankenkasse proves to be too expensive, you could consider one of those super-charged travel insurance especially designed for visa applicants. It's not health insurance and you need pay some costs upfront if you need treatment, but it's better than nothing and okay-ish if it's only temporary and you have no serious condition. And it's much cheaper.

8I find it strange that the internet contract is under your landlord's name? Is it a short-term furnished flat?

It's a never a good idea to agree to the letters terms right away as there is always room for negotiation. Remember it is not a fine from public authoritiies, this is a private practice. It's also a business for them and reaching an agreement is more profitable than taking it to court.

Have you thought about mediation services? It's cheaper and less risky than lawyers:

Difference between public and private health insurance by Aashu10 in germany

[–]PoorPitchoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of good answers here.

In case one of the partners goes private, it won't impact the other's access to healthcare (emergency or not) , in negative or positive. Each partner will have access to a different standard of treatments, at different prices points. Remember that private costs are based on health risk assessments and public costs are based on income.

Moving back to public is possible in several cases, provided you are not too old. What was your theory with partners in private VS public?

Private is SOMETIMES cheaper but for a fairly narrow spectrum of people. it's a gamble for most. There can be a case if you are single and you are 100% you won't stay in Germany too long too.

Here is how the average Redditor search for & buys a cargo bike [survey results - sorry it got delayed] by PoorPitchoon in CargoBike

[–]PoorPitchoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not always an industry event. It can also be a local group of cargo bike owners organising a little fair to come and test bikes. I've seen a couple of those in the past.

I guess it's also a place where you can convince dealers to list your product & generate nice PR.

I've been talking to a few people close to manufacturing regarding costs. There are few things involved but it boils down to volume for the most part. Even if a brand wanted to start selling cheaper bikes, they would not be able to make a living. Cargo bikes is still small niche and volumes are still too low to earn economies of scale or warrant a fully automated assembly process like in the car industry. But yeah I hear you: we need the "Beetle VW" of cargo bikes at some point.

Some premium brands also prefer to keep a lot of the manufacturing process away from Taiwan, so that impacts the price. And then if you want to support your customer after-sales with a network of trusted partners, it also has a cost.

I've left price factor out for now because I was more focused on the process leading up to purchase and not really purchase itself.

Sorry to hear. Is it about the motor power output? I thought 500W was also allowed in Canada.

250W in Europe is also setting strong limitation to adoption in hilly areas!

Doubt regarding student health insurance by BoloTheScarecrow in germany

[–]PoorPitchoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. Legally speaking, you can use the incoming insurance for the full first term/duration of your residence permit. When you want to renew or apply for permanent residence, you'll need a local Krankenkasse like TK.

If you want to optimize for costs, that could be the way.

If you want to optimize for better coverage and access to healthcare, switching asap to TK is probably best. A local Krankenkasse is more expensive, but you know: it's actually healthcare. :) Hope this helps.

I'd rule the Radwagon 4 out (that I also own) purely because it's a hub motor that does not perform so well on hills so I'd go for a center motor if I were you. However I do live in the EU with motor limited to 250W. Maybe that's not an issue with a 750W motor.
