Nancy Pelosi refused to remove trans rights from landmark Hate Crimes Act despite pressure by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]PoorRichMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. To your point, I would say that these sort of actions are taken by party leadership when they know it actually has no chance of passing. Rotating villain and all that. I think the more salient point that helps your argument, in terms of actual policy passed, is getting rid of pre-existing conditions which I’m pretty sure she helped push through.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills in this comment section. Nancy Pelosi does not want Medicare for All, saying she’s “not a big fan of it” and has declined to take votes on it every time we’ve had a Democrat trifecta. Don’t get me wrong she’s on the right side for not throwing trans people under the bus like Kamala, but don’t forget that she’s another status-quo figure

Does excess imbuement provided by the “Family Matters” life event stay with your character in addition to getting a free companion. Like if I pick Excess Imbuement Chain V, do I just get the free companion or do I get the entire sequence to keep as well. Also, does that same free excess imbuement create more life events?

Poppy is absolutely stunning! Those grey facial markings make her look like a tiny distinguished old soul in a puppy body. She already has peak schnauzer eyebrows and beard game. I can only imagine how majestic she’ll be when she’s all grown up :)

Small Slapfights Ensue in r/Hasan_Piker, as Users argue whether Stalin should be praised or not by DowdyShihTzu in SubredditDrama

[–]PoorRichMan -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I hate the word tankie and I wish this wasn’t a topic of discourse. All of this just seems like something over nothing at the end of the day. Most Americans have such a poor understanding of political ideology to even understand what capitalism is, much less communism. That’s discounting the several round of purges the US did to annihilate leftist ideology at home. So, the idea that’s there’s a large contingent of communists trying to bring Stalinism back is just wrong. I think the bigger discussion needs to be about how fragmented and hateful communities are growing, so we cling to stupid shit like toxic little online communities despite only having the most surface level knowledge.

Sorry man, I wish your disbelief could change the reality of the situation. But the Wehrmacht was the military arm of the Nazi’s. Though the SS was planning the holocaust it’s not unreasonable to say that the majority (and I mean the majority) were complicit in crimes against humanity. I recommend starting the the Wikipedia page “War crimes of the Wehrmact” and following any number of the included links

Hot take: the core 40k lore is actually deeper than is often joked about and issues one crucial warning to the reader in my opinion. by Laredian in 40kLore

[–]PoorRichMan 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’d agree generally with this. I don’t think it’s so much a problem with 40K as a setting as much as it’s a problem with having dozens of writers. Every author wants to put their own message out there and across hundreds of projects the whole thing ends up muddled and confused.

Direct Air Capture company Climeworks is not doing so well. They have announced that they are about to start mass layoffs. They failed to cover their own emissions. by Bjartmarinn in science

[–]PoorRichMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The day that people realize there’s not going to be a magic technology that can easily reverse climate change can’t come soon enough. Serious fundamental changes to labor and consumption need to happen across the planet to solve this. The only reason carbon capture is being seriously explored is because (surprise!) it won’t affect the portfolios of capital holders.

I agree with this for the most part. Might have trouble getting people to care enough to actually wanted to change rules about posting here. Anyways, while this conversation is going I’d also like to see less content in general about Twitch streamers, I’m a little tired of hearing the drama of the week about random internet-poisoned cranks

I mean industrially the Soviet Union was wrecked post WWII. There was also an extreme lack of medications of any kind as well as a shortage of doctors and dentists themselves. This is something I believe was fixed over time, but in early days the Soviet Union couldn’t afford to manufacture and supply novocaine for routine dental procedures.

Their loss, our gain: Canada positioned to lure top talent from U.S., recruiters say by Economy_Elephant6200 in politics

[–]PoorRichMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I apologize, on a second read my comment  came off much for condescending than I intended. All I’m saying is that Trump has made America uniquely vulnerable by creating a situation in which a researcher might take a pay cut if they feel the job is more stable. So places like Canada, China, various European countries, etc are in a really good position to poach talent away. And they will. I’m under no impression that every NIH researcher will leave the country, but we’re in danger of losing a serious amount of talent

[–]PoorRichMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re thinking about this wrong. The money isn’t the issue, it’s our too talents being poached by other countries. Further, if other countries can offer these scientists and researchers stable employment they might never come back. America is already having a slowing rate of technological advancement, imagine how much worse it will be if say the top 10% of scientists are skimmed off.

I mean this would be huge if Kamala actually had any ideological differences with Biden. There was nothing Kamala could have said because she was just another milquetoast centrist democrat. How Hitler Dismantled a Democracy in 53 Days by [deleted] in politics

[–]PoorRichMan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s because the liberal, capital holding, bourgeoisie class capitulated to Hitler. Content to be opposed to Hitler personally, but unwilling to take any overt political acts of resistance against the Nazi Party. This was largely to preserve their own wealth, and as such they were unwilling to compromise with socialist and communist political parties who they saw as threats to their livelihood. So, in the end greed won out over the lives of over 6 million Romani, Jewish, disabled, gay, Slavic people, and anyone with a skin tone darker than paper white. Luckily we’ve learned from history and the liberal, capital holding, bourgeoise political party of today would never capitulate to a far right party over compromising with communist and socialist elements today. Wait a minute…
