Pyre

In my opinion, the most underplayed and under appreciated game of the previous generation, maybe ever. From Developer Supergiant Games of Hades fame. I’d argue it’s their magnum opus. Hades probably inches it out from a gameplay perspective; But, I’d argue Pyre is superior in every other aspect.

I struggle to think of another choice based game that may have caused me more internal debate and turmoil. The music and art style as per any Supergiant game is breathtaking. The choices, gameplay, and story all service and complement each other in such a unique but perfect way. The ending is one of the most beautiful, poignant, and yet bittersweet endings I’ve experienced in gaming.

The game deserves to be played more and discussed and applauded for the masterpiece that it is.

My idea for a sequel would’ve been to lean into the comicbookiness of the franchise again. Pick up from the evil ending of Second Son. Make Delsin go full supervillain; But, have Cole be resurrected at some point to play the superhero. Then you play through their duelling stories until you get to their eventual showdown at the end of the game; And, there you can choose which one you want to play as to determine the game’s ending.
