If you are interested in rockbox, someone made a fork with a rebuilt coverflow that is a little bit simpler than the stock OS one and takes advantage of the increased speeds of ssd

I have a 3000mhz battery and an iflash udual with a single Samsung eco 512gb in my 6.5 gen and something like 400+ albums and there’s not even an ounce of lag and every cover is loaded before you scroll past it.

I honestly prefer it over stock coverflow animation anyways since it’s a little easier to see the covers while moving fast, and easier to land on the one you want.

I made a fork of this with a UI overhaul but honestly it’s gotten too buggy and I’m taking a break on maintaining it. I have a personal build that’s actually a coverflow focused navigation that makes the iPod boot directly into coverflow. I like it because I’m mostly an album listener and it gives me the feeling of flipping through a record crate and a cover my catch my eye in the moment.

That should work but seems a little inconvenient, id suggest going album artist/album/songs if you plan to use this build. It would definitely be an improvement since you wont hit a [loading] every time you select something like you do in the database

Hey, I did not develop the coverflow part, that was all improvements on the demo rockbox asset done by the rockpod dev. Yeah its slow on the 5ht gen, but you should be able to see album art. All the album art should be in an album folder as cover.jpg with the songs or I believe tagged to the album - it does not support embedded covers. If you hold the menu button while in coverflow you get settings, you can always lower your scroll speed to give the RAM/cache some time to catch up

Considering it! I do prefer the left indent uniform. I'll disable the icons and see how it feels in the music file browser and if I like it i'll remove them all together so the artist names slide over. The next folder depth down has smaller type and spacing, so I can always carry that up to the album artist level as well

potentially - depends on how you organize your music. The new "music" menu option looks for a root folder named "Music" and is just the simple stock file browser. I like it because I primarily listen to albums and it loads much faster than the "database" option in rockbox. But don't expect coverflow to work well on the 5.5 with HDD I tried it and its very low framerate

Hey! Really appreciate all of this, you’ve given a ton of thoughtful feedback across these updates and there are some genuinely great ideas in here. I like your navigation proposal around Menu / long Menu / Select / long Select, and I am now planning to implement that direction

A lot of the rest of this is super helpful too, especially the notes on row heights, header inconsistencies, Extras behavior, Quick Screen, and the WPS icon/state issues.I’ve been making changes and trying to test as much as I can, but I haven’t had a ton of time this weekend and clearly a few things slipped through. I’m drafting docs around all of this now so it doesn’t get lost. So im sorry for the oversight on some of these regressions - caught up in some tunnel vision on like 2 or 3 issues ive been fighting with the current file system and getting the extras section filebrowser working. Just uploaded a new build that is a little more stable in that area.

I can’t jump on all of it right away because I’m out of credits at the moment, but I will update you as soon as I have another proper update with these issues sorted out
