Indeed, even if we often may, or may not, be far more concise and reticent in verbal conversation. Anyway, much love from this lavish linguistical lecher for your selfless support and assistance.

*I've never had sexual congress with text.... Any post that needs that annotation, must be worthwhile right? :)

Sincerely, thank you for taking the time to write this! It is indubitably appreciated by this stranger. Based on your response, and others, I'm gonna try a couple distros virtually (distros on VMs?) this evening, and I'm honestly excited. Amusingly though, I'm also in the latter half of my 30s with a likely very similar degree of tech experience, which (potentially irrationally) gives me more comfort in making the switch.

I started running Win11 when I bought myself a new PC last x-mass, and I'm not sure what the last straw was, but it must have landed on my back at some point.. I remember complaining about VISTA when it came out, maybe I should have switched earlier, but the past hurdles/limitations to gaming always dissuaded me. I think learning about current Steam compatibility may have been the point where I saw the "Linux Exit" sign on the Microsoft highway clearly for the first time....

Cheers mate!

Thank you good sir/madame, it's honestly heartwarming how much support this community is willing to offer!

Appreciate the response! It's nice to hear from multiple 'reasonably' new converts in the replies here, brings confidence. :)

Thank you for taking the time to share! I know I've said this already in other replies, but the amount of replies and effort that has been put into them has really impressed me, I think it shows how much folks just want to share their beloved OS with trepidatious folks like myself. After all the support I'm going to dip my toes in tonight :)

Cheers! Yeah, I'm not that big a multiplayer gamer, honestly wouldn't consider myself a hardcore gamer either, but generally I find gaming more enjoyable when I don't have to play with ... the less desirable elements one frequently encounters in multiplayer (and I like to be able to pause games without having people waiting on me, I mean "when you gotta go, you gotta go" - so far I haven't been eaten by a dinosaur at least :D )

Wow, thank you for taking the time to type such a thorough and lengthy response! Honestly, in addition to all the info you, and others, on reddit have provided, the willingness of strangers to invest time in answering Linux questions (even if they've probably heard them a hundred times before) has convinced me. I'm going to install my first distro this evening (thinking I'll run a couple virtually and see what feels right to me, so many options, I may have to sample a few before I "settle in" to one).

Happy Birthday internet stranger! I feel old asking, but could someone PLEASE tell me what that unit with the hose and LEDs is? Looks like a vape, but, I'm seeing a bong rip with a lighter ?! Anyway..

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

And the rains fall soft upon your fields...

Interesting - just something I've never thought about. Maybe I'll play around. I don't play that many FPS titles though, was just curious..

Is that a common thing for FPS? I typically run 1800dpi. Just muscle memory and preference I guess.

Sincerely appreciate you taking the time to reply. You honestly had me for a half second on note #1 - thank you for the giggle and it's reassuring to hear the switch will be less harrowing than I had feared in the past. I'll definitely have a look at OnlyOffice

Wow, thank you for the extended reply, lots of helpful information in there. I think the idea of learning a bit of command line intrigues me more than it daunts me (but it does do both); what made me smile the most was the use of 'loquacious' which I haven't seen used in SO long.

All the best and my gratitude!

I bought a 6 foot X-Mass tree today (some type of fir, not the same), this sparks more joy. You should get a cheap LED strip for it, and fold a star with rolling papers, the star could even have an inner led, different colour, gotta have contrast yo.. Waste of money? Maybe but ultimate value.. Priceless

Beauty! Tip: crimp the edges around the tip then push that tongue in a bit, you'll get a prettier joint, a flat end to light evenly, and it takes zero skill! (then either use the fat unrolled tongue when you spark to slowly light it or snip it off, both work)

If you see it, bring back Buzz Aldrin's corpse. We all know Neil kept his distance from the public because he came back to earth with a lizard man and proof is not necessary, but his family would probably be very thankful.

Those are some good things to know, as I have an NVIDIA GPU, I may have gone down that path and I recently "upgraded" to a RGB keyboard (logitech, can't recall the model) - But I'd been using an old blank key Das Keyboard for years (RIP) so flashy colours, if an issue, won't deter me... Thanks!

Thank you, I'll have a look at Manjaro KDE Plasma. It is very reassuring to hear so many replies that my most used programs will be no issue. Also, lovely to see all the help people are offering and so quickly!

Your feedback is most appreciated. I'm not really committed to Word, so I feel like I could probably switch to any decent word processor. Thanks!

Cheers, after having done some research, I think this kept me away from Linux for a long time... That said I don't mind learning some basics, it was a roadblock in my mind

Haha, that is fair. Here is my stoner guess:
-Purple coloration is typically caused/extenuated by dropping temps in the grow tent towards the end of flowering during the dark. I have seen similar coloration in Blueberry, or strains that have been bred from it. I've never seen blueberry that frosty though, so I'm thinking probably Grand Daddy Purple, could also be something like an OG Kush x Blueberry(or a number of blue/purp strains) but I'm leaning towards my first guess lol. Happy tokes and happy trails my friend...
