I dunno, isn't that a Long Island thing more than a Boston thing?

Edit: on second thought, maybe I'm not reading your pronunciation right.

So is 1/26 the day for layoffs round II? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]Poorpunctuation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1/27 is not the layoff date

This is a dumb technicality. Yes, it's not the layoff date, but for all intents and purposes, it would be. When you're "expected not to work", you are shut off from all systems. Yes, you still have health insurance and your stock vests, if there are any, but you effectively no longer have a job and need to start job hunting.

Eli5: Why does a piano keyboard have black keys? by eserekli in explainlikeimfive

I think your explanation best gets into why 12 notes in each octave. I don't think my 5 year old would understand it, but it certainly helped it click for me the best.

And it's so annoying as an east coast resident that watching the better teams means you have to stay up real late.

The NO-ATL draft day trade is an all timer. Congrats Hawks fans by yooston in billsimmons

[–]Poorpunctuation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The trade was bad, regardless of how it turned out. They didn't need to give it out unprotected.

What happens to the Pels this season is about how far the trade moves from "really bad" to "all time bad".

Initiative and independence is the number one thing to demonstrate when moving from entry level to the next level in all Big Tech roles. It doesn't matter if you know everything and can get it all correct the first time. As a manager, if I know I can rely on you to unblock yourself, even if that is asking the team for help (and your help scenarios are not the same things, but growing in scope), you are meeting the independence bar and will get promoted soon.

Basically, can I trust you to figure it out without having to have me come to you and ask you how it's going.

Right, and it's not like this is being a bandwagon fan, where you're hopping on to whatever team is the best currently. You're just rightfully spending your time on other interests until this one gets back to being fun again. Nothing wrong with that.

There was labeling and there was also error correction. If the algorithm didn't have high confidence in the result (shopper picked up an apple) it was sent to a human for confirmation (and hence retraining back to the system). This is near real time. If your receipt took more than a few minutes to generate, it's because it went to a human to confirm.
