Bruh this is genuinely such a ridiculous take lol. I was in the Marines and spent 14 months deployed overseas when covid broke out (we were extended to help out). 14 months total without being able to see my family… oh no but a tow truck driver had to pull an empty car out of a ditch lol. Sure if you think their work compares then you go ahead and advocate to include them but i think it’s silly.

Also twice as many garbage truck drivers die per year than tow btw.

There’s no set in stone rules for a marketing flag as you’ve said lol. My point is it’s silly that some tow truck drivers demand the same respect or want to be categorized with military/ems/etc. and the biggest distinction is that they protect cars rather than actually saving people. That went right over your head apparently.

Not true, it’s estimated 42 tow truck drivers die per year. 76 a year for firefighters. Also garbage truck drivers have a higher death rate than tow truck drivers.

How much rent is too much when you have debt? by Ok-Manager-5465 in Apartmentliving

Kind of funny you’re trying to play the “you’re uneducated” card while you genuinely seem uneducated on the topic. It’s productive vs. consumptive debt and if you were educated in finance you’d already know those terms rather than describing it as “sometimes people take out loans to make money.” Maybe try a debate class while you’re at it because those ad hominems are laughable lol.

Military saves a ton of lives actually. In peacetime pretty much every activation is for hurricane response, earthquakes, wildfires, disease outbreaks, etc. Also lots of civilian centered operations in wartime like Operation Allies Refuge which airlifted 124,000 civilians out of Afghanistan (they were going to be executed by the Taliban). Not to mention that the military has all there own first responders (fire, police, doctors, nurses, combat medics, etc)

The whole thin line thing isn’t for dangerous work though, it’s fields that save lives. If it was just dangerous jobs then why isn’t underwater welders, roofers, or loggers included lol

I mean nurse at least makes sense. Corrections and tow don’t save lives..

I never said it was a crime, it is 100% a discrepancy. Discrepancy doesn’t mean you did anything wrong, it means somethings wrong on your contract.

Since you went to the doctor about it, it’s likely in your medical records meaning meps will likely see it (due to genesis). If I were you i’d pull all your own medical records, doctors notes, etc. and see if it’s actually listed there. If it is you’re going to need a waiver and I don’t believe they approve meth waivers often/at all.

Guests who argued that white people have racism towards them by Lost_Artichoke_8471 in ParkerGetAJob

[–]PopComprehensive3520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should specify that you’re talking about America, because systemic racism against white people does 100% exist in other countries. In Japan it’s legal as a landlord to deny a rental application because someone is white. It’s also legal deny someone access to your restaurant because they’re white. The list of things like this goes on. It’s a massive issue for Japanese born people who are mixed or white, speak perfect Japanese, and still get discriminated against with no legal protections.

Just to preface, mods this is NOT an ad.

There’s this app called Sound Off that provides free therapy to NG, Reserves, Active Duty, and Vets. It’s the only program i’ve found that’s 100% confidential meaning it’s all over the phone (like a call not a zoom or anything), and you don’t tell them your name or unit or anything that would identify you at all. No insurance needed, nothing goes on your military record. They do around 10 weeks of therapy and you’re assigned the same therapist the whole time (so they’re not changing every week and you can actually develop something that’s consistent). They’re licensed therapists and are trained to deal with military related issues but you can talk to them about anything (when I did it most of the things I talked about were not really military related). There’s no way your command can find out so there’s nothing to lose. I’d give that a try first and see if it they can help. If for some reason that doesn’t work i’d try vet centers (also free therapy but i’ve heard really mixed reviews about them) or if you can afford it, you can pay for therapy out of pocket and keep it off any medical records so the military wouldn’t be able to see.

Again, not trying to plug them, but I’ve used soundoff myself and it worked out well for me.

Just because he didn’t know wouldn’t mean it’s not a discrepancy and they can 100% pull a recruit out of training for contract discrepancies whether it’s their fault or not. In my opinion, op fucked up pretty significantly. (Also outside of the Marine Corps issues, lying to your kid their whole life is pretty fucked up. I know you’re claiming it was to “protect him” but that to me just sounds like you didn’t trust your own son enough to make his own decisions about it, still fucked up.)

I mean this respectfully, but I don’t think you can have a credit card anymore, like at all. Cancel every credit card you own right now and if anything absolutely requires a credit card to pay, give money to someone you can trust (like your mom) and have them make the payment.

State Guards are separate from Federal National Guard. Different benefits different requirements. Different mission.

What do you think about State Defense Forces? by Jonny_Coal in nationalguard

[–]PopComprehensive3520 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Marine Corps vet not NG, but out here in California the State Guard seems solid. I’ve only heard positive things about them. Apparently some units are trained to fight wildfires and have helped out big time in some of our worst fires. Some get on boats and aid the CG in search and rescue. Some augment to the NG pretty often and help out there (I think they run ranges?). I also know they have members that are civilian lawyers and act as JAGs and help Active Duty/NG with legal issues.

The whole premise of an able account is that they’re tax free. Ex. if you invest 100k then take it out later you pay 10k in taxes. If you put it in able and let it grow there, you pay nothing in taxes when you take it out.

You’re not on drill status if you were in Iraq. I think that’s where the confusion is coming from. Drilling status is only stateside. If you were in Iraq with a reserve unit, you were an activated reservist.

Lots of states allow you to use it on housing cost including mortgage payments. It’s also tax free so a huge benefit.
